I just rewatched Clay Matthews' early hit on Foles, and while that should have clearly been a penalty, I'm now expecting to see the league find Matthews. He hit Foles square in the chest with the crown of his helmet and drove him to the ground. I'm now wondering if that play shook-up Nick, and contributed to his poor play.

Just did a search on "packers matthews helmet crown hit foles" and got a lot of results. Matthews clearly is not a "clean" player. But what's interesting is I found this - so it's not the first time Matthews has taken a dirty shot at Nick:

He should have been ejected from the game for a blatant and vicious hit like that.

Agree that by the rules the hit should have been 15 yards, but I'm not angry about it at all. It was a great hit. Helmet landed on the thickest part of the should pad and probably just jarred Foles. No injury. Later in the game I saw Foles rotating his throwing arm like he got a stinger or direct hit after being pureed into the turf again. That O line needs to get its shit together fast. These growing pains might come at a great cost.

Yeah, I'm willing to give Foles a pass. He was hit so often it had to rattle him. But those two picks near the goal line are concerning. I haven't seen a video of the last one, but the one intended for Kendricks was just a bad pass. And he wasn't being pressured on that one. The pick six was a tough one. He was being hit. In hindsight he probably shoulda took the sack. But I get that he's the kinda guy who's always trying to make a play. Not sure thats what Fisher wants outta his quarterback though. Fisher would prefer every drive ends with a kick and hopefully not too many of those are punts.

They gotta get that blocking figured out. Otherwise Fisher will just use Gurley so much it could wear him down late in the season. Rookies are used to a shorter season in college. Playing extra games in the NFL can wear them out in year one. Hopefully Gurley's late start will keep him fresher late in the season. But I don't know about the rookie linemen. They've been going since day one.

O-line problems or not, that was a freakin' dirty vicious hit. Can you only imagine how much noise ESPN would be making this week if that hit had happened on their precious Brady?
