Sources: Extension talks between Sam Bradford, Eagles break down

Ed Werder, ESPN NFL Insider

The Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Sam Bradford have suspended contract negotiations attempting to commit him to the team beyond the 2015 season, league sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

The source said Bradford's incredible preseason success changed the negotiating dynamics.

It has become too expensive for the Eagles to negotiate an additional year or two after Bradford went 10-for-10 with three touchdown passes in Chip Kelly's offense in his final performance of the preseason.

So despite his injury history, Bradford is prepared to play this season with no contract beyond this year and establish his market value as an NFL starter.

The Eagles acquired Bradford in a trade that sent Philadelphia starting quarterback Nick Foles to the Rams. Bradford has one year left on his original NFL contract and is scheduled to make $12.95 million this season.

Bradford trying to shoot the moon. If he has the season he thinks he's going to have, he's gonna get paid, big time. If he doesn't, or gets hurt, well then he'll just have to live on all that money he already has...

Shoot he already shot the moon over StLouey. I hope he does as much for them as he ever did for us. SB has lived a charmed life and will be just fine either way. That said, SB just needs to put up now and shut up until he proves himself again.

I remember when I was young and dumb at the age of 16. I would cut grass in the summer and shovel snow in the winter and back then avg like 8 dollars a hour. So when I had my first chance to get a real job at 17 my dad had set up through one of his friends. I was not gonna take because it only paid a little over minimum wage at $3.50 a hour and I figured why work for less when I avg $8 a hour. Then my dad reasoned with me and said think of how even though ya make that much ya only work for a few months out of the year and then have no money coming in the rest of the year. His logic made sense it was better to make less and earn all year long than make more and not earn most of the year. If I was Sam I would consider such a scenario.

He's been playing to win, which i respect.

He wouldn't take less from the Rams and now he's swinging for the fences in Phili. Good for him...

IF SB gets through the season healthy, I can see some knucklehead owner offering him something like a 5y/100+M contract, huge signing bonus, and huge guaranteed money, especially with the numbers he'll put up in Philly. Hi, Dan? Want an actual indian playing for you? How's RG 2.5's knee/head? He who laughs, last, right?

I wasn't thrilled with the trade, but I've reached acceptance, or relief, with the fact that the Rams don't have to make the decision of whether to pay SB huge coin or let him walk as free agent.

And if SB hadn't been traded and gotten injured this year with the Rams, the Rams probably would have let him walk for nothing.

So, at least the Rams got something for SB, I guess. . . .

Good luck to him.
