Interesting thought. With the Chargers coming to LA, I actually think we now have a great opportunity to further increase our fanbase. There are now a lot of lost ex-Chargers fans looking for a new team. A Charger fan switching to the Raiders doesn't seem likely ( but there will be some because the Raiders are winning). Some will revert back to the team of their childhoods if they were a transplant, some will drop the NFL but some will probably look to the Rams as the next closest team to start rooting for, especially if it makes Spanos look bad. If I am the Rams, I am adding the SD market today to the marketing efforts.

The Rams have had a pretty suspect PR strategy since arriving home. It's like they are stuck in that STL midwest, smaller market mentality and it had bitten them in the ass repeatedly. The first year back in LA clearly did not go as scripted. What should have been a triumphant return home became the butt of way too many jokes. All that being said, the Chargers are even worse when it comes to PR and it is going to be almost impossible to overcome because I do not think they truly understand what their perception is in LA and now what their perception is in SD. How do you build excitement for a product with 1) a fanbase that doesn't really want you and 2) a fanbase that you just abandoned after 50+ years of loyalty and is probbaly looking to other teams?

So lets make sure we welcome our fallen brothers and sisters. All are welcome in the Ramily.

Absolutely. I have several Charger fan friends who seem to prefer the Rams to the Chargers if they move, as they are pretty pissed off at the Chargers.

And I certainly hope competing with the Chargers would put the Rams marketing plan into a higher gear.

Hopefully Kyle doesn't go to the Chargers now.

I think that is a great idea except not until the Chargers move for real. I still have my doubts.

I say - start now. Might even make Spanos realize he's not keeping all of his SD fanbase if he goes ahead and moves, that SD is now fair game for the Rams.

Spanos pretty much declared war on the LA market in this lovely letter this morning, and then copied the Dodgers logo for his marketing. So, let's go!

From his letter:
The Chargers are determined to fight for LA and we are excited to get started.

I think Deano thinks he is still entitled to the SD market in addition to now LA. The way I look at it, if he gets to say he is fighting for LA without officially moving then we should get to parrot this statement and say the Rams are determined to fight for SD and we are excited to get started.

Now that the HC search is over, The PR department can stop with the "Get to Know the Candidate" fluff pieces and get to the business of growing the Rams brand for ALL OF SOCAL (that means SD and the IE)

Be careful what you wish for. I prefer K. Shanahan to the Chargers than the Niners.

Yes, I agree re: Niners or Chargers.

I think I've assumed McD to the Niners.

You know what happens when one assumes... right?
