FAA declines to allow cranes at Inglewood construction site
There’s some potential “7-9 bullsh-t” happening with the Rams’ new stadium in Inglewood.

Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal reports that the Federal Aviation Administration has declined to issue permits for cranes needed to build the structure.

“We’re not going to evaluate any crane applications until our concerns with the overall project are resolved,” FAA spokesman Ian Gregor told Kaplan.

Specifically, the FAA concluded last year that the stadium could be a hazard, because it possibly will interfere with radar at LAX airport. (Separate concerns have been raised regarding terrorism, given the presence of the stadium in the approach to LAX; the FAA apparently is not delaying the project on that basis.)

As Kaplan notes, the scheduled implementation of new satellite technology in 2020 could address the issue. With the stadium due to open in 2019, however, an overlap between the new stadium and the old technology would exist.

The most obvious outcome would be to delay the opening of the stadium until the new satellite technology is in place. But that’s surely not something Rams owner Stan Kroenke will be interested in doing — especially with the Super Bowl set to be played in the new venue in early 2021.

The rest is rhetoric. What this is saying is that the permits are still in process. They we likely given the foundation and infrastructural green light (permits) but there are unresolved issues regarding the structure. The FAA has a lot of say in this situation. Obviously way more than normal due to the fligh path and stadium proximity.

Some how this says they can supersede in the process which could significantly delay the building process if not resolved. They probably won't need the boom cranes for a while yet but can dig the holes and set the steel.
This also mean that since they issued any permit at all, that they feel this situation is resolvable either through compliance, legal leverage or political persuasion.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason they pushed back the original date of 2018 to 2019 is because they expect these type of roadblocks.

Yeah I'm thinking they are several months, if not more than a year from needing large cranes for anything.

Hello Bitches.

I have reluctantly come out of the bunker to address those with concerns about the FAA and approving this stadium. This pic was taken of Levi stadium the other dark and stormy night landing at San Jose International. Did not zoom in the camera or anything that might give any form of digital deception. We flew 850 feet above the ground on profile. At LAX we fly 1100 above the ground in almost the exact position over the runway of concern on profile.

This truly is a non issue and conversations between the FAA and developers happen all the time. Back to the bunker.
