Rams may spend part of training camp in California

By Jim Thomas

The Rams, who may be moving permanently to Los Angeles in 2016, may be spending several days of training camp this August in southern California.

According to a Dallas Morning News blog, the Cowboys are close to finalizing a deal to have the Rams visit them for several days at their summer training camp home in Oxnard, Calif., about 60 miles north of Los Angeles.

Rams owner Stan Kroenke plans to build a stadium in Inglewood, Calif., and the NFL says it's possible there could be one or two teams playing in the Los Angeles area in 2016.

According to Rams executive vice president of football operations Kevin Demoff, coach Jeff Fisher is hoping to scrimmage another team during the team's 2015 training camp.

Demoff confirmed that the Rams have talked to the Cowboys about holding joint practices in Oxnard, but that nothing was finalized and there is a chance that no joint practices would be held at all.

Demoff said there also has been some "very initial" discussion of potentially holding joint practices with the Indianapolis Colts.

Whether the Rams practice in California will depend in part on the finalized preseason schedule, which could come out as early as Tuesday when the regular-season schedule is announced. The Rams open their 2015 preseason at Oakland, with the game expected to be played sometime in the Aug. 14-16 range (a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday).

If the joint practices with the Cowboys take place, they would likely be held for a few days after the Oakland game.

In his first three seasons with the Rams, Fisher did not hold joint practices with another team. But he did so frequently during his long tenure with the Tennessee Titans, including twice against the Rams: in 2000 at Western Illinois University when the Rams trained there, and in 2008 at Tennessee's training facility in Nashville.

The more I think about it, the more I have to believe that by attending TC in Oxnard we are doing what we can to show LA's support to the league who at that point won't have taken (or at least made public) their relocation intentions. Let's rock the place with cameras a blazing for our friends in StL.

You're not alone. It's gonna be crazy (if it happens). Thousands of L.A. fans, Fred Roggin, local news, you name it. It will be a scene and a half...

Cowboys set camp dates in Oxnard

The Dallas Cowboys will arrive in Oxnard on July 28 and open their 2015 training camp with their first full practice on July 30 at 3:45 p.m.

The 2014 NFC East champions will spend a month in Oxnard preparing for the 2015 season, with 20 full practices which will include several days of scrimmages against the St. Louis Rams.

During their time in Oxnard, the Cowboys will travel to San Diego and San Francisco for exhibition games against the Chargers and 49ers.

While the team will train at the fields at River Ridge and stay at the Residence Inn, the training camp will be different for fan this season.

Much of the land surrounding the field is scheduled to be redeveloped, reducing the areas for seating and parking. This year, all fans will sit on bleachers on River Ridge golf course and will park at a lot behind the golf course.

Dallas had its most successful season in many years in 2014, winning the NFC East title and advancing to the second round of the playoffs, where they lost to the Green Bay Packers.

Most of the top performers from last year’s team return, including quarterback Tony Romo, tight end Jason Witten, wide receiver Dez Bryant and offensive linemen Tyron Smith, Travis Frederick and Zack Martin.

Gentlemen I cannot wait I watch every Ram game via the NFL Ticket with four of my Ram comrades and we've already agreed that we will come out to the Golden State in 2016 and then 2018 when the stadium opens. So I will be reaching out for hotel recommendations as well as places to dine.

Love the fact the Rams are doing this first of all Cowboys good team to scrimmage against and just to get the fans stirring (not that they need much) will look forward to the camp reports. And I truly hope new uniforms in 2018 because they have to give the NFL a two year notice to the blue & gold with the blue & whites as the throwbacks.

Camp reports are a given den. Photos and all.
I thought the team already announced a color/uniform change that is eligible to be worn 2016? I could be wrong but that is how I remember it
