It's not much unless it's compared to the other offers he received. His cap hit is $47.4M this year. It's a one year deal by structure but his dead cap will be huge spread over 4 years which must be the "discount" McVay as alluding to. His dead cap would be spread over 4 years with most being paid in 2026 (almost $42M). They can spread the cap hit by declaring it a Post June 1 transaction. 2027 would be $27.4M with the rest spread over the next 3 years. Matt will get almost $90M for one year. That is a huge price for a guy who projects to miss games. I'm not denying Stafford's talent but all that for a guy that isn't what he was in 2021? Although it's structured with multiple year's it's no different than his original what has now been replaced. Next year is shown as another "option" year. There is no illusion that they can afford this again next year. Anything less than winning a second Lombardi would be failure. It's why I expect them to try to carryover as much cap to next year to help pay for the dead cap next year. Or they will struggle to extend key players from 2023. There is no question they will be drafting a QB next year. The only question would be who. I think Arch will stay in school through 2026 to give him a chance to be the undisputed #1 pick in 2027 with two complete seasons on his resume. IMO Nico Iamaleava is going to be in the top QBs of next year's draft. I think he could be their target. Nico just transferred to UCLA so that he could play in front of his friends and family as he's from Long Beach. I also think it was his agent's suggestion to make sure he gets exposure with the Rams and their fans. There is a lot to like about him. by Flash 23 hours 42 minutes ago Total posts: 1260 Joined: Jan 13 2016 Houston Pro Bowl Stafford's contract POST #2 actionjack liked this post According to over the cap, the extension is 2 years 80M with 40M guaranteed.
