When they signed Jimmy G I was happy because for the first time they had a legitimate talent at QB2. But like most I wondered how much does he have in his tank? If he had so much promise why was he a FA who took a minimum wage (for him) job to be Matt's backup?

So I was glad they gave him a shot as a starter. What I saw was a good QB playing with a bunch of backups including on the OL. He played against a veteran team who was motivated to win playing all their starters.

IMO Jimmy showed he still has a lot in the tank. He will get his offers at the end of the season. I've made it clear that I think this is the last season for both Stafford and Kupp. After watching Jimmy G. IMO he's better than Darnold. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Sam is younger, with a stronger arm, and far more mobile. But he's playing with a very talented roster around him. Jimmy is older, doesn't have the arm strength of Sam, but he has something crucial lacking in Darnold. Years of experience. It's what allows Stafford to compete with younger, physically more talented QBs.

If the Rams sign Jimmy I don't think it will be as a bridge for a rookie. They probably will draft a QB on day three to be their QB2. That is what they intended to do with Bennett but McVay allowed his subordinates to make the pick and they picked badly. I think they will revisit that approached only this time McVay and Snead will pick the player.

The way McVay gushes over Jimmy G to me is telling. From all indications Jimmy has been a solid organizational fit with the respect of the other players. With the talent on this team the Rams IMO can win with him at QB1. Look at how Sean's offense has morphed over the past two years. It's now short to intermediate passes for the most part with the big plays coming from YAC. That is exactly Jimmy's game. His experience gives him an edge with pre-snap reads and going through his progressions quickly and accurately. He also can move, though he's not a running QB but he has to be accounted for inside the red zone 5 yard line.

We have seen this year McVay experimenting with RPO type of plays especially on short yardage. Going beyond a simple pocket passer is pressing the envelope for Stafford. The bottom line is that if McVay is going to continue to evolve his offense he needs another QB than Stafford. Snead is mindful as well they will have to extend their defensive stars in a couple of years so they will need the cap space. The most logical candidates for clearing cap space is Stafford and Kupp. In 2025 those two will account for about 28% of the cap. Restructuring is simply kicking the can down the road for a year and adding additional obligation.

This is why I said if Stafford thought he was going to be the starter in 2025 it didn't make sense to rock the cap boat this year. When the Rams didn't take the opportunity to restructure his contract that spoke volumes to me and I'm sure Matt got the answer he half expected.

Now it's "JimmyG" next year? QB1 didn't answer your question? >>>>> Can't wait for the "Kirk Cousins Anyone" thread. :lol2:

Still don't think Stafford retires. But I'd be fine with Jimmy G as the backup again. He did pretty good without most starters. He could hold the fort down if Stafford missed a couple games.

Agreed. The Jimmy G ship has sailed imo. Anyone that thinks he's a capable starter need to watch tape of him with the raiders. He's finished I think. He's fine in a pinch for a couple games but beyond that not so much.

I think Stafford is good for one more year, I'm fine with Jimmy being our backup. Time to bring the future QB to sit a year behind those guys. I like the kid from Notre Dame.
