I don't know if McVay wants a green college QB. He had difficulty getting Goff to do what he wanted. He jumped at the chance to get Stafford. I'm sure if there were a good college QB that excited McVay, he'd grab him but I just get the feeling it's going to be an experienced vet or a younger vet who's had a bad experience under terrible tutelage. Maybe somebody he thought highly of when he was coming out of college. And again, I don't think we're anywhere near a decision like that anyway.

I think Donald touched on it during a recent interview. That Goff wasn't experienced enough to run the offense the way McVay wanted it run. I have to agree that Sean was becoming increasingly frustrated with having to coach up a young talent while trying to "win now".

It's why I tend to watch developments with established QBs with the arm talent and style of play McVay wants. It's why IMO Prescott is probably on a short list of candidates that the Rams might consider to follow Stafford.

Like in 2021 this team is ready to win now, i.e. it's essentially built. I liked Prescott in his draft and still think he can be very good with the right coach and offensive system. Everything depends upon Stafford's relative health. IMO all bets are off regarding Stafford if he misses games again this season and it's why I think they were hesitant to put more money into the pot.

The Rams will look at Stafford as their franchise QB as long as his health and arm hold out. After that I think they have a short list of QBs they will pursue either in FA or in trade. One aspect I've been looking at are the younger backups who might be close to being ready to step forward that they might pursue as a one year developmental option to play as QB2 for a year. Despite their apparent support of Bennett I simply don't see him as an option beyond the coming two games this year.

No doubt these things are true about Goff and McVay but let's not forget Goff was a basket case after his rookie season and widely seen as a bust. McVay had him playing at a probowl level week 1 of their first season together and 2018 was also pretty great, though cracks did start to show towards the end.

McVay also coached Cousins, in one capacity or another, from his rookie season until he became Washington's starter playing at a pro bowl caliber level with McVay as his OC.

And we all know how much McVay loves coaching Stafford so seems like either avenue would be open if and when the time comes...

Listening to Stafford, 3 things will determine his status in 2025 and each year beyond. 1. Winning another SB. 2. His Health. 3. The pull of his family to spend more time together. He clearly has the love, desire, and skill to play for a while.

There will be someone after him needed between 2025 and 2027. Imo.

After listening to the interview with JB I agree.

That’s exactly what I was referencing my man. I hope he stays healthy and plays at least next year too.

And we win back to back SBs!!!!!
