Rams source: “Likely” Rob Boras becomes permanent offensive coordinator

by Vincent Bonsignore

The Los Angeles Rams last week asked for permission to talk to Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur, presumably as a prelude to a Shurmur/Rams reunion. Shurmur spent 2009-2010 as the Rams offensive coordinator, and the assumption was they were looking to reel him back in for the same position.

The theory seemed a bit presumptuous, considering the Rams seemed comfortable lifting the interim off of Rob Boras’ title and making him the permanent offensive coordinator. Boras, you’ll remember, replaced Frank Cignetti as the Rams OC late last season, prompting a bit of an offensive awakening and a 3-1 Rams surge to end the season. The Rams averaged 22.5 points with Boras coordinating the offense after averaging less than 16 points over the first 12 games under Cignetti.

In any event, it’s all moot now. The Minnesota Vikings late Saturday hired Shurmur as an offensive assistant coach. And a Rams’ source on Sunday said it’s “likely” Boras will be the permanent offensive coordinator.

I thought beat reporters were guys who rooted for the team to win. Vinny has rooted against the Rams his entire life.

When guys like me were pissed off when the Vikings beat the Rams with a blocked FG return for a TD in 1974, Vinny was laughing at us.

Just reading your post gives me knots in my stomach.... so much pain caused by those 70's games in Minn.

Yup. Those games left me sleepless back then.

And I would hate to have Vinny, a guy who reveled in the Vikes winning those games, be the beat writer for my team.
Vinny was anti-Rams back then, and he's still anti-Rams now. Don't want him.

Both of the LA Kings paid insiders weren't organic Kings fans. Although the current one is more of an LA Sports fan, while the other liked the Kings and everything else Chicago.

Are you sure? Vinny doesn't seem old enough for that to be true.

Gawd, I remember that. IIRC, it was 4th and goal at the one. I wanted them to go for it. Ultra conservative Knox went for the FG. 10 point turnaround there.

I don't think he is over 50. In 74 he'd have to have been at least 10 years old then, which would make him 52 now.

Vinny is a blogger who joined the LA sports writers group. Vinny doing Fred's radio show gives him a clear impression of substance. On that show he knows his LA sports scene pretty well. But his Blog is pretty relo-centric with an obvious San Diego slant. Perhaps Fabianos gave VB priority access to the spin drip the Charaiders were injecting into everyone's veins. I will wait to see where his passions lie now (Rams or chargers) but I suspect he is simply an opportunist just trying to claw his way to a notable career. Just don't leave out the credibility part.
