Multiple sources, including NFL.com, is reporting that Kyler Murray is adamant that he won't play in 2022 without a new contract. This is almost as delicious as the 49ers issues with Deebo Samuels wanting a new contract and Jimmy G still being on the roster. :lol2:

Delicious is the perfect word, it’s really interesting, there’s all this money being thrown around and Kyler wants his. Watson didn’t even play last year and broke the bank so I can kinda see his point but the Wentz/Goff situations have taught teams to be 100% sure before you give that extension, especially after year 3. It’s gonna be harder unless you’re Mahomes or Allen type talent to get that deal early, so if you’re Kyler or Lamar what do you do? Lamar seems to have chosen to wait, the price is only going up anyway, whereas Kyler has gone the other way and is refusing to play without a new deal.
The problem for Kyler is that nobody thinks he’s the guy to win a bunch of division titles and maybe get to a SB or 2 in the next 10 years. All that could change though, Russell’s gone and Jimmy too? And Stafford ain’t getting any younger so maybe he can be a top qb in the division, maybe.
I hear talking heads saying “he’s a franchise guy, pay him”, but is he “that” guy? The last half of the season was meh and the playoffs were a disaster. Where does he rank among qbs? Top 10? 15?
Everyone wants to shoot their shot to try to win it all like the Bucs and rams did so now you gotta ask is our guy good enough? Sounds like the cards aren’t sure.

Agreed. It doesn't appear the Cardinals are certain at all. And why would they be when they saw him melt down? He can move the chains though ..
Me not we is alive and well in the NFL.

Interesting player that has dynamic capabilities but they’re showcase style capabilities and not to be depended upon long term or consistently.

I’m glad we have a true quarterback and not some hybrid playmaker running around the field and into SportCenter highlights. I prefer the consistency and execution of a pocket QB

All that money for a guy who may or may not lead his team to the playoffs and end up with a first round exit if he does? Maybe they should trade for Jimmy GQ? I hear he's available if anyone's interested. :lol2:

Man, the west could be set up for an easy division this year. Rams could cruise to the playoffs then turn it up when they need to.

Kyler was supposed to be the next evolution, Lamar has made himself into a decent passer but Kyler was supposedly already one when he was drafted. He has shown himself to be a good passer with a strong arm but I’m not sure he has perfected the art of quarterbacking. I’ve heard that this is basically the same offense he’s been running since high school, if so that could be why the front office is slow playing this.
When it comes down to making a throw to win the SB we’ve seen guys like Goff and Garapalo come up short, they’re good qbs but whatever that thing is they didn’t have it. Is Kyler in that group or is he in the Mahomes, Brady, Stafford group who can make a huge throw in a crucial situation.

Well that settles that,, for now. They better hope for another 7-1 start.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals picked up quarterback Kyler Murray's fifth-year option on Wednesday, fulfilling the pledge general manager Steve Keim made earlier this year at the NFL combine.

The option for 2023 will guarantee Murray a salary of about $29 million.

Murray, who was taken first overall in 2019, was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract, making him eligible for an extension that his agent has publicly stated Murray wanted sooner rather than later.

At the NFL combine in March, Keim said the Cardinals would pick up Murray's option, a day after Murray's agent, Erik Burkhardt, posted a letter on Twitter that explained how a detailed contract proposal was sent to the team.

Murray, 24, won rookie of the year and is a two-time Pro Bowler. He led the Cardinals to improved win totals in each of his three seasons and guided Arizona to the playoffs last season for the first time since 2015.

Upon receiving word of the Cardinals exercise of Murray's 5th year option, the NFL stats department increased Aaron Donald's 2022 sack total from 0 to 2.
