He did a piece on GMFB today about the "disrespect" of the McVay coaching tree. He goes through all of McVay's assistants who are now head coaches, plus one who's a college OC. Claims 'we always talk about the Belichick coaching tree and they get immediate respect because of the Patriots successes'. But of all the assistants who got head coaching jobs only 1 has won a division....Bill O'Brien (4 division titles in Houston).

Meanwhile, McVay assistants including LeFleur (13 wins three years in a row; 1st ever + 3 division titles), Taylor (10-6, division title), Staley (9-7) are all successful in a short time. Plus Liam Cohen (3 years under McVay) and now the Kentucky OC has turned around the Wildcats offense and is getting mentioned as an NFL OC. He also cited Shane Waldron, who joined the Seahawks this year. But he said although the Seahawks didn't enjoy much success, Wilson missed a ton, etc.

Interesting in depth analysis and a video clip of Taylor speaking to the media last year after week 14 loss that put them at 2-10-1. They won 2 of their last 3 and sit at 10-6 this year. It was a cool piece. I'll try and find a video clip of that segment.

Yeah Waldron is the one dud, so far but being OC for Pete Carroll is a lot like being Jeff Fisher's, a real career killer.

Also, it's probably more fair to say McVay and LaFleur are branches of the Shanahan tree as they coached together in WA and that's kind of where a lot of this started but McVay, of course, deserves credit too.

Taylor was on a lot of people's short list to be fired after Burrow got hurt last year and Taylor was getting crap for putting him in danger by throwing so much.

Now, excellent shot at COY and Burrow is a rock star QB...

Almost 1000 yards passing for the Bengals the last two weeks and 2 big wins.

Can you imagine how great they would be doing if they had balance?

Would McVay come from the Mike Shanahan coaching tree? Or the Jay Gruden coaching tree? It sure is impressive that two of his former assistants are in the final 8 of this seasons playoffs. Along with him. Staley had a winning season his first year. Everyone still looking for the next Sean McVay. Heck, the Cardinals hired Kingsbury because he was friends with McVay.

Either Jon Gruden or Shanahan.

And Shanahan came from the Walsh coaching tree. Gruden came from the Holmgren coaching tree...who came from the Walsh coaching tree.....who came from the Paul Brown coaching tree! It all depends on how far you want to go back. Andy Reid was from the Holmgren tree. Belichick from the Parcells tree. Martz from the Coryell tree. Coryell from the Gillman tree. We could go on and on! :)

My question is, LaFleur has gone 13-3, 13-3 and 13-4 his first two years. When in the hell are they going to start poaching his assistants???? I guess they're safe for now. It probably takes a Superbowl appearance!

Maybe some aren't convinced enough of his pedigree. Like McCarthy he's had the benefit of coaching a Hall of Fame quarterback. How will he do when Aaron Rogers retires? The one game he coached without Rogers they scored 7 points and lost.

In 2017 Rogers missed 9 games with McCarthy as coach. They went 7-9. McCarthy won 12 games this year so I supposed he showed he can win. But they sure shit the bed in the one playoff game. The jury is still out on LaFluer.
