POST #5 azramsfan93 liked this post The Stafford acquisition is kind of unique. On the one hand, the Rams get a proven producer which will upgrade what we've been getting over the last two years. But as much as he's proven in that way, he's also unproven in the post season. The Rams first choice was supposedly Rodgers but I'm actually happier with Stafford. Stafford is younger, just as good of a passer and that unknown about his post season ability is actually a plus over Rodgers' established mediocrity. As great as Rodgers has been, he just doesn't get it done when it matters most. This year is a perfect example. I mean, Brady gave the ball to the Packers 3 times in the 2nd half and Rodgers didn't do squat with it. Considering the Packers are running what we would potentially run, I'd like to see what Stafford can do when he's got a running game and defense supporting him.I think the fact of the matter is, our passing game has been pretty bad in the post season. Everyone just wrote off the Atlanta game in '17 because it was such a surprise the Rams had such a big turnaround. But that game was an offensive dud. The Dallas game was carried by Anderdon and Gurley. The NO game was a fluke. That PI gave the Rams an opportunity that shouldn't have been. If the game had ended right there, the passing game was another dud. The SB was less than a dud. It was literally not viable. Seattle was a defensive win with little passing(forgivable considering the injury) and GB was another anemic passing day.The Rams just haven't had much production in the passing game in the playoffs. It's been consistently anemic and our playoff wins seem to be in spite of the passing game much more than because of it. Maybe Stafford disappears too when we get there again and it's all McVay's inability to coach. But I think he has proven that he can coach by winning 3 playoff games without much of a passing game. 1 by snackdaddy 3 years 10 months ago Total posts: 9868 Joined: May 30 2015 Merced California Hall of Fame Re: MCVAY + STAFFORD = SUPER BOWL? POST #6 I remember when some people felt McVay would turn any quarterback into an all star. Now he has someone who's considered to be a pretty good quarterback. I do get a little excited over the possibilities. But that excitement is tapered a little because defenses figured McVay out. We have to wait all the way to September to find out if it was him or the quarterback he had to work with. If it was the quarterback the whole time we could be in for some good things. POST #9 On pardon the interruption, Mike Wilbon says, "3 playoff games in 12 years, 0 wins". Tony Kornheiser says, "Rams in SB". . . . . . . . . .On Wilbon's "no wins".....*(in fairness to Stafford he played 3 games in 2010, so let's not count that season....3 postseasons in 11 years)In 2011, Stafford and the Lions got beat 45-28 by Brees and the Saints, who had 633 yards of offense. Stafford was 28 of 43, 380 yards, 3 TD (and a TD run), 2 Int (the 2nd on their last drive, down 45-28. Lions 32 yards rushing. In 2014, they got beat 24-20 by Romo and the Cowboys. Stafford went 6 of 8 on the final drive for 46 yards but was sacked twice, the 2nd on 4th and 3. End of game. He was 28 of 42 for 323, 1 TD, 1 Int (which led to a missed FG by Dallas). Lions had 90 yards rushing on 22 att. Good game.In 2017, they got beat by the Legion of Boom, 26-6. Stafford 18 of 32 for 205, 0 TD 0 Int, 3 sacks. Lions 49 yards rushing on 15 carries. To my knowledge Detroit has never had a good defense while Stafford has been around with 2014 being the one exception (#3 in points; #2 in yards) and a close loss to the Cowboys. Under two defensive head coaches (Schwartz and Patricia) the Lions averaged 27.6 rank in pts allowed and 22.3 in yards on defense. With Jim Caldwell, an offensive guy, they averaged 15 in points allowed and 16.3 in yards. They went to the postseason twice under Caldwell. Ironically, the 3 times they finished top 10 in yards offensively was under Schwartz. In Caldwell's first year they were #7 in points on offense. So, I'm thinking Stafford might enjoy playing for the offensive minded McVay as long as Morris keeps the defense humming. Been following the horns since the Coliseum had a Roman playing there. I'm getting impatient. by Hacksaw 3 years 10 months ago Total posts: 24523 Joined: Apr 15 2015 AT THE BEACH Moderator Re: MCVAY + STAFFORD = SUPER BOWL? POST #7 Or did they figure Goff out?
