Could Levi’s Stadium keep Raiders from moving?

Posted by Mike Florio on December 3, 2015, 3:53 PM EST

As the high-stakes game of chess, checkers, and chicken continues to unfold in connection with the NFL’s looming return to L.A., an intriguing wrinkle has emerged, courtesy of Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com.

Bair reports that one of the “theories floating around” in Texas during Wednesday’s ownership meeting stands for the notion that the presence of Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara could keep the Raiders from satisfying the relocation policy.

While the policy contains no such clarity, the terms at least suggest that the presence of a suitable stadium in the current home territory could be a factor. Specifically, the relocation policy states that “clubs are obligated to work diligently and in good faith to obtain and to maintain suitable stadium facilities in their home territories, and to operate in a manner that maximizes fan support in their current home community.” Applying that term literally to the Oakland Raiders, the presence of an NFL stadium down the road in Santa Clara (which is actually closer to Oakland than to San Francisco) could be an impediment to an effort by the Raiders to leave the Bay Area, since the Raiders have an obligation “to work diligently and in good faith to obtain and to maintain suitable stadium facilities in their home territories.”

Meanwhile, Bair notes that Raiders owner Mark Davis said Wednesday that he won’t move the team to Santa Clara or to St. Louis.

The relocation policy wouldn’t force Davis to move to Santa Clara, but it could help keep him in Oakland. And, if Davis can’t find a stadium solution in Oakland, it could force him to reconsider his position on Santa Clara.

Ultimately, that could be the best solution for the Raiders and the rest of the NFL. If, of course, the 49ers can be persuaded to open their stadium to a team they can no longer play in the preseason because of the animosity between their fan bases.

I sure as ship hope so. Pardon the spelling.

In legal terms, if the Raiders can say no, why can't Spanos or Kroenke.
WASH. I read a couple years back that the league like them going there. But the locals didn't. To many games.

I am beginning to think this is going to get testy.
I read that Kroenke has one son of a bitch legal team.

Spanos' position is not righteous. This whole thing is really mind blowing.

That 49 year LA resident the Rams f'n matters.

Would be kinda cool if you ask me
Rams/Chargers in LA
Oakland/San Fran in Santa Clara

Maybe with the inflated value of franchises and outdated stadiums, a 2 team share will become more the norm

But then Davis would be a tenant. Levi Stadium is a viable no cost option which Davis would be a fool not to consider since he doesnt have the resources to build himself a new stadium

He wold be a tennant yes, but there would be increased revenue for the stadium by having the 8-10 additional games there.
Kind of makes more sense than LA

I'd rather it be the way it was in the 70's. Still if they are home I'm down.

Not sure there are enough markets large enough to support 2 franchises. my guess is SF, LA, NY are it for now. Expansion, especially to foreign countries perhaps.

As a kid growing up in the 70's, mostly listened to album rock on FM, didn't much care for the hits on AM. But now, in my 50's, i love that shit, gotta be something wrong with me...

HA HA. The police knew where I lived. They'd pull up outside our house and honk or call my dads name. Come get your boy and ask him to stop whatever it was I did. lol (were talking fire on the beach or skateboarding type stuff)

brown was in
polyester
hair everywhere
you could choke on the LA air
the freeways still were
dial telephones and party lines
live bands at every house party.
no cellphones or video games. We actually played outdoors.
dial TV's with rabbit ears
cars had carburetors
gas was .40 cents, a stamp was .13 cents
Led Zeppelin
and our Rams went to a Superbowl

So Elvis, you are now diggin' those 70's AM hits like Sugar Sugar, Take a Letter Maria, Indiana Want's Me, Yummy Yummy, She's a Lady, Don't Pull Your Love, One Toke Over The Line, Wasted Days And Wasted Nights, Summer Breeze, I Can See Clearly Now, Delta Dawn, You're So Vain, We've Only Just Begun,, to name a few off the top my head.
I think it's like going to a 30 or 40 year class reunion. All those faces remind you of when you were younger. The music does that too and at our age, we don't have all that piss and vinegar running through or ears.
I used to dislike the Beatles. To sissy. It was the Stones, Zep, Deep Purple, Santana, The Who, Jeff Beck, Alvin Lee (catch the guitar trend?) or fugedaboudit.
Now people say my music reminds them of the Beatles with a guitar edge. Go figure.
