He joins a Phillies team expected to be much improved this upcoming season. The All-Star slugger, who’s been named everything from the National League’s Most Valuable Player to the NL Rookie of the Year to the Silver Slugger, has a career .279 batting average with 184 home runs.Phillies principal owner John Middleton had made it clear that the team was willing to pay what was needed to land Harper or the other big fish of baseball’s free agency, Manny Machado.Machado signed earlier in February with the San Diego Padres. A-Rod signed the biggest deal in history (at the time) and was gone after 3 years. The Rangers were 216-270. The Angels grabbed Pujols from the Cardinals, making Cards fans sick and Pujols haters. They've made the playoffs once in 7 seasons with Pujols (and went down 3-0). They had both Pujols and Trout for the last 7 years and sucked. That deal wasn't worth it either. Who has signed a mega-deal AND has led his team to the postseason year after year? I can't think of anyone. Been following the horns since the Coliseum had a Roman playing there.
