I agree completely that a correct facemask call right there changes the circumstances of the game from that point forward.

But for the sake of argument, let's say that the officials only get the PI call correct, and not the facemask. The Saints very likely win the game and advance to the Super Bowl. But maybe they shouldn't.

The way it actually played out from that point, the Saints had two defensive series and one offensive series (in which they could have won the game outright), and they failed on all 3.

I think we know the best team won the game, irrespective of the PI non-call. I don't even think it's debatable.

The timelines and non calls have been discussed. The ref's were obviously trying to let the players decide the outcome.

If things were reversed, I'd be pissed too. I'm sure Saints / Brees fans are all feeling a bit of comfort with all the world discussing their misfortunes. Bummer for them and their who-dat whistles.

SCOREBOARD. The Rams played well enough to be in a position to win in that giant loud hub-cap. What didn't happen is unmeasurable. What did happen is the Rams are going to the Superbowl, , , w/o the Gumbo.

The Rams should offer to replay the last 5 minutes of the game with the agreement that the Rams have 1st and goal at the 1, down 20-17.
Then both bad calls could be wiped out.
After the Rams win, the outcome is left at 26-23 so Zeurlein record remains in tact.

Not sure if the All 22 will show it, but a play that has really bothered me in all this "missed call-gate" was Eli Apple leading with his helmet.
There was a play on Woods at the 7:24 mark of Q2 where Apple clearly led with his head and made helmet to helmet contact. My screen grabs don’t do it justice. Wonder if the all22 shows anything?

After the destruction from Katrina, the emotional reopening of the Superdome and then the 2009 Super Bowl win it's amazing how deeply the Saints are woven into the culture of New Orleans. Before Katrina the fanship for the Saints seemed standard for any football team: but after 2006 things really changed.

Like I said before you're dealing with basically a single sport market in New Orleans. It's not like they have anything else to move on to when it comes to with pro sports. Plus it doesn't help that LSU is on a downswing and Bama keeps winning or getting close.

I know I tend to overexplain things, but you guys need to cut New Orleans just a little slack on their anger. Don't worry, they'll rage for a little while longer and then start prepping for Mardi Gras and the parades that start in a few weeks.
