I think under other circumstances, we would have cut Goff with this anemic performance against twos and threes.

Am I the only one that feels the future looks pretty dim right now. I really don't think this is a Fisher thing.

There is a bit of a Cinderella hope thing going around right now.

didn't goff drive 62 yards on 7 plays culminating in a rope to britt for a td when he last played with the 1s? didn't last season's pro-bowl rookie qb winston finish last season's preseason with a 52.7 qb rating? but goff sucks and the future is dim? really?

He did start week 4 strong and it degenerated into a dropped pass festival it was sad to watch. People talking about cutting Goff or declaring him a bust already are just idiotic. They have no grasp of reality and certainly have short attention span memory not being able to remember how past #1 picks and 1st round QB's have done. Hell John Elway was getting booed out of the stadium his rookie preseason. It's just foolish some of these comments against Goff.

As for the thread title and subject the whole team needs an offseason away from Fisher.

All this hate for Fisher....

Why don't we all take a breath and see how the season unfolds?

If we have a winning season then the perspectives will change. If not, there will be plenty of time to indict the coaching staff, players, front office, ball boys, cheerleaders, etc.....

So true. I watched the game expecting to see some awful play, and on that first series, Goff looked every bit as confident as Keenum has.
At the end of the day, I harbor no ill will on Keenum, I'll root for him to play well, and of course hope to see the Rams win.
My issue is that Goff didn't have a chance. Fisher for the most part Old Schools his rookies, which is fine for other positions, but not acceptable for QB. Especially one we traded the farm for.
All this talk about keeping Goff off the field as to not hurt his confidence. What is a bigger shot to confidence level? Getting a chance on the field and possibly failing? Or after being the starting QB for as long as you can remember, being 3rd on the depth chart after not having the same opportunity as the starter?

If this were his 1st or 2nd season, I'm with you.
Fact is its his 5th, and his 1st season was his most successful. No coach in like 50 years has kept their job after 4 straight losing seasons. We went in to this year draft with 3 of the first 30 some-odd picks and yet none of those 3 picks are in a position to help this team in game #1, and possibly all year.

Phew! I was under the impression that Fisher already put up 4 lousy seasons for our Rams. Apparently it was just an ugly nightmare.

Fair enough, but the RAMS need to keep close to the top of the division. They can't go 1-3 while the Cards or Hawks are 4-0. Even if the division leader is only 3-1, a two game hole has proven to be pretty large for Fisher, given the lack of any meaningful winning streaks in the previous 4 seasons.

snackdaddy wrote:The way the league works RIGHT NOW, is that rookie QB's regularly get prepared to start right away and get that learning curve started. If Fisher chooses to sit Goff for 3 years like he did with McNair I don't know what I'll do with myself. It's a stupid approach in this day and age in general and specifically with this Rams team.

The reality is Goff is an EXPENSIVE, #1 overall pick and should have been treated that way. Instead, he was treated like Mr. Irrelevant and put in situations where he wasn't likely going to succeed. Instead of getting him as many reps as possible in live action, he was limited. Instead of getting him as many passing plays as possible when he actually was in the game, he was limited. Instead of putting him with the 1's and supporting him and helping him along, he was relegated to guys who just weren't that good.

Look at what Brady did the other day when he played the whole half with mostly scrubs. Didn't really look like Brady, did it? So, why should Goff look any good, gain any confidence or learn anything by throwing to guys who can't catch, probably aren't running the right routes and just aren't good enough to be in the NFL?

He is the future and the future should be now. He should be taking ALL the first team practice snaps so that he can be as ready as possible for the season. Protecting the 7-9 legacy and probably season that starting Keenum will bring isn't really something that anyone should care about. This offense, even without Goff, isn't good enough that they should be taking the preseason off, sitting players and not showing real plays. They sucked last year and have limited practice time to get up to speed. Play the real offense, let these guys gel and hopefully improve and deal with the other team's scouting just like they're going to have to do after week 1 anyway. Hiding and sitting these guys doesn't do shit.

It's ridiculous that anyone is acting like Goff isn't what he is. It's his job, he's the starter and he's the future. Treat him that way for God's sake. He's on a FOUR year contract for crying out loud!!! We're really talking about sitting him like McNair for 3 years?

Fisher should not be allowed to sit Goff for 3 years. He should be fired after the first year if his guy Keenum can't take them to the playoffs. He won't have the luxury of safety knowing a rookie quarterback isn't expected to lead them to the playoffs.

I get what you're saying. But its too late now. Fisher screwed up by not giving Goff every opportunity to grab the starting job. Now he has to rely on a journeyman who rarely throws for more than 200 yards in a game and isn't likely to average more than a TD pass per game. A journeyman who has more limitations than Goff.

It appears that Philly is going to give Wentz every opportunity after the Bradford trade. I'll bet Keenum was untouchable for the Rams. I've never been a Fisher basher calling for him to be fired. But he mishandled Goff from the beginning. And he should be out of a job if Keenum doesn't take them to the playoffs.
