They dont think they can compete for a chip this year with this young of a team on defense (mostly in the secondary) but will include additional young defenders in this upcoming draft. Off loading any highly paid defensive player not named AD to infuse the offense. My question is how/when are they going to improve the offense.

It seems to be and Les basically said this you can only improve one side and with McVay its is going to be offense. IMO they are saying they cant improve the offense enough without taking money from the defense. They didnt feel they could contend with the offense now or in the future....Will see if they choose wisely.

I get what they're saying just not sure how much sense it makes.

For example, what's the difference between spending next year's cap space now with back loaded contracts or next year with less back loaded contracts?

I'm not necessarily being critical just not sure it makes sense, feels like there's a piece missing.

But that's me...

Does not seem like they're gonna wanna pay him but if no one will take his contract, maybe he does stick around?

I think they have to trade A Rob from a cap perspective, he frees up a lot of space this year and next year with a trade. I dont pretend to understand everything about the cap but that is what Over the Cap shows....

I don't know how deep the WR class is this draft. But lately there are always a lot of options. That's good if we're looking for one, not so good if we're trying to trade one. If not a trade, a post June release? I don't know if that helps us much.

The new team would owe him at least 10 mil., unless he renegotiated. That's hefty.

If we release him post June 1st, the 23 cap stays the same but improves 24

Why didn't we go after him? We would have only had to cut another 12 or 13 players!!! :oops2:

I know you're kidding around but this isn't true. The Saints signed Derek Carr to a $150 million contract with a cap hit of $7 million in 2023.

If the Rams want to do deals like that they can. Seems pretty clear they don't want to...

They "don't want to"? :?2: :arrow2: :lol2:
Okay....
IMHO, that's like concluding that Robert Downey Jr. "couldn't relapse back to his drug-addicted days."

To me, when folks hit bottom, sometimes they gotta go to rehab to get straightened out.
Some guys go in for alcoholism.
For some its drug abuse.
And for some....
it's spending your NFL Salary Cap dollars like drunken sailors....on crack! :idea2:

IMO, there was an intervention of sorts, where Stan Kroenke gave Sean McVay more power (& control?) in future Ram personnel decisions.....at the expense of Mssrs Demoff, Pastoors & Snead. I think Kroenke is uber fooking pissed that HIS RAM FRANCHISE delivered such a historically dismal defense of their SBLVI championship. :idea2:

================ANOTHER ANALOGY (if you didn't care for the rehab one above :P )

The SS Los Ramos was sitting in harbour, after being battered badly during the 2022 sailing season. She was laden with a top-heavy cargo manifest that ate up 86% of our 2023 Salary Cap in only our Top Eleven guys! :o :arrow2: :shock2:
There was some debate about whether that overpriced cargo would have to be rapidly jettisoned in Port, before being mandated to leave harbour & put out to sea on March 15th! :idea2:
Some of the ship's passengers, who had strong, but stubbornly unyielding faith in the Ship's Top Officers & Pursers, argued that only a slight tweaking of the ship's cargo was needed for a successful 2023 voyage, despite the battering the ship took the season prior.

Other more skeptical passengers, some with past sailing experience, were much less trusting of the nature & expensive value of the cargo, and moreover did not believe the Ships Officers/Pursers were somehow infallible in their nautical judgments & decisions, especially after the vile stormy voyage in 2022.

Thankfully, during a week or two rife with unsettling rumors on the fate of the expensive laden cargo, accusations from the Tweakers fell upon the Skeptics saying they were filled with angst, depressed, and pessimistic. There was even a brief Tweaker accusation of fabrication being employed on the Skeptic side, but thankfully that was put down quickly.

Fortunately the Ship's Owner's smarter cooler head prevailed, and within just a couple of days, much of the top-heavy expensive cargo was chucked overboard into the harbor, for any salvager who cared to, could salvage for their own ships.

Had that SS Los Ramos vessel put to sea laden in such a top-heavy configuration, she would have capsized so rapidly that there would not have been even enough time to re-arrange the deck chairs to have the faithful properly listen to the band play Auld Lang Syne!! :o

Question: Might Ship Owner Kroenke been a tad pissed about his stately vessel being so poorly & irresponsibly loaded by his Ship's Pursers Demoff, Pastoors & Snead?
How about Ship Captain McVay? There were reports circulating that due to the shoddy ship's manifest, that McVay was actually thinking about not putting to sea at all this shipping season
.....but he reconsidered, reportedly after the Ship Owner gave his Captain much more control over exactly what type of cargo the Ship's Pursers were purchasing and stowing on board.

I guess we'll see how our 2023 voyage unfolds. One good thing, we are sailing in the NFC Ocean...
and thankfully NOT the AFC Ocean.....which is much more unforgiving. ;)
