I truly hope you are wrong. Otherwise it seems like somewhat reckless planning..

Actually, history will remember little beyond the Chiefs. Maybe the Eagles.

…and history won’t remember 5-12 if we turn this around. My over/under is still 7 games but if we catch some breaks (like Burrow starting game 5) and some teams underachieving we may have a shot this year.

History ain't gonna remember 5-12, no matter what happens this year. Hell history has forgotten it already. History remembers the winners. The Browns went 0-16 in 2017 but what does history remember? The Philly Special. The Patriots went 16-0 in 2007. What does history remember? David Tyree's amazing catch. You don't get it......nobody cares about 5-12......save for Rams fans who expect playoffs every season, despite not too long ago hoping for a good season at 8-8. Good teams have bad years and it uaually takes something like devastating injuries or a miraculous performance by the opposition. Forget it. Let it go. These guys know wbat they're doing! 6 years since they brought us out of that desert of 7-9 bullshit and there are still doubters? It's okay, history won't remember that either! But some of us might. ;)

People who know history know what happened. People who deny history deny what happened.

I;ve encountered the argument before that the record says everything. In fact I've encountered that a few times.

In one sense it's right--did you win or lose is what counts in competitive games where one side wins and one side loses. That's the bottom line part of it.

But in another sense it's not right. If you know a team, the record could mean different things depending. A team could be 7/10

* if it has been perpetually mediocre with below avg. management (in which case it is reasonable to expect more of the same
* it is a previously losing team that is in the first year of a rebuild (in which case you can reasonably expect better next season)
* if it is a winning team that is now declining (in which case it might stay as bad or get worse)
* if it is an average team that had some key injuries
* if it is a good team that had catastrophic injuries

That;s a few things. There's more but that's enough for now. The idea is that there's more than the bottom line view. You can also see that different teams with the same record are there for different reasons.

To repeat a familiar history we all know well. In 98 the Rams were 4/12. They had issues at qb and RB and some (though not all) suspected the coaching. If you knew the team you could reasonably predict that they had some talent and were building and that it was not always goint to be 4/12, and in fact that's the view many had at the time. No one predicted 99, but there were many who saw a team that was building and just needed a couple of key parts. No one guessed that one was already on the roster (qb) and the other would come in for merely a 2nd round pick (RB).

Not saying that 23 will be 99, just saying the obvious--that there are rightfully going to be different views of what will happen.
