What did I miss? Is the season over? Or is that the sky falling on your head?

The number one pick in the 2016 draft will be sitting at the far end of the bench at the first regular season game.

I am aware of that.... I am searching for the logic. For you fellow geeks:

if ((GoffSits == WorstPassingOffense) && (FirstGameNotYetPlayed))
{
bool overReaction = true;
bool CaseKeenumIsTheMan = true;
} // don't try to compile this - you will violate my intellectual property rights

He's just not ready at this point in time, doesn't mean they will bench him the entire season.

The problem that bears repeating is how there can be an expectation that he will be more "ready" later on when his practice and snaps will be reduced and he wont have any game time PT to work with
A couple of bad games and/or an injury and he's getting thrown in there, ready or not.
Just been set up to fail from the jump

I think you are looking at it the wrong way. The reason he is not ready, is because he doesn't understand the mechanics of NFL football. The QB is basically like a coach on the field. Goff does not know how to manage a game. Keenum may not be as physically talented as Goff, but he can manage a game. Right now, that's what we need. When Goff has that ability, he will start.

He can learn more about our team, other teams and how to manage a game, by intimately watching from the sidelines and in the video room.

Yes, Goff will learn by observation and working with the coaches.

However, his practice time will be almost nil with the starters. He won't be developing any timing with the starting WRs or RBs. As a third team QB, I wouldn't be surprised if he's running the other team's offense for our starting defense.

To me, it does seem he was brought along so slowly that there was no hope of him starting. I'm really surprised his progression was so slow that he's number 3 on the depth chart. We gave up a lot of draft picks for a guy who probably won't play much this season.

No matter how optimistic one is, somewhere in the back of your brain you have to be wondering if Fisher and company can develop a QB.

I haven't programmed in "C" for awhile, but shouldn't the first part be...
if (( GoffSits != WorstPassingOffense ) || (FirstGameNotYetPlayed ))

In other words, if sitting Goff doesn't give us the worst passing offense OR
first game not played yet then overreaction is true.

Case is our guy, Boras/Groh will run the O, Gurley will stun us with amazing plays...Got to be optimistic going into the season. Ripping when appropriate is fine, I do it with relish, but the season is on now. Game 1 coming up...Fisher, babe, now is the time, year 5, produce this squad into winners.

I admire your ability to remain optimistic. I wish I were able to do so myself.

I'm just in the camp that thinks Fisher has lost it - if he ever had it to begin with. I normally put zero stock in the results from the preseason. In fact, I still think it's meaningless. But it's just hard to imagine him fielding even an average NFL offense. His apparent philosophy just works against it.

I have no idea how good Goff is. I just know that he would be much further along with a different group of coaches. I think I said this exact same thing last year right before the season started: Maybe the Rams win a bunch of games by playing really good defense and special teams. I doubt it though.

I'm putting a lot of stock in Fisher's "7-9 is BS, 8-8 is BS and 10-6 isn't even acceptable" comment on the first episode of "Knocks".

In the past he's said that Case could get this team to the playoffs. It is year 5 for Fisher. I'll give him this time to get it right. What else can you do at this point? I would have canned him after year 3, but Stan writes the checks. I expect this be his last chance to get it done. Fisher has a squad full of his people and coaches...Fisher has no excuses left.

Though I suppose, if things turn south, he could go to Stan and say, "When Goff is ready this team will be awesome."

Except that wont make him more ready. Live action will. He needs reps

UM, yeah that's exactly what it will do and hopefully it will allow us to win some games in the beginning of the season, rather than him getting eaten alive by 1st Team NFL Defenses.

well that's "exactly" the plan, whether or not it works out remains to be seen... what we're left with is a track record of bottom of the barrel regular season offensive scoring under keenum, under fish, leaving us rams fans to once again hope for the best, hope for improvement, even tho not much has changed on the offensive side of the ball...

The Rams are so pleased with Jared Goff's progress they're making him the third string QB
http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2016/9/2/12768460/los-angeles-rams-jared-goff-third-string

ha ha, did anyone actually read that sbnation tripe?

He's also taken a battering behind a Rams offensive line that continues to struggle with pass protection, despite the presence of left tackle Greg Robinson, the second overall pick in 2014.

despite the presence of grob? goff has played a total of 7 snaps behind an oline that included robinson, which was 1 series against the chiefs, his primary left tackle throughout preseason has been all-world, 3rd on the depth chart, darrell williams...

Todd Gurley and Tavon Austin didn't play last night, but Goff's struggles have come with the starters as well as the backups.

what, what, what??? i defy this yo-yo to point to the snaps goff has played with what will be the opening day starters... such total tripe..

Someone has been watching. Goff played just fine with his only time ever playing with some of the starters Keenum always gets reps with. Goff has been thrown out there with Williams at LT an Quick as his primary receiver on almost every rep. At least when Mannion comes in they take Quick out.

Whatever. Goff will be just fine. I'm glad we drafted him.

Most of you h8ters were firing Fisher for drafting a RB in the first round last year by this time last year already.
