Now I think Anchrum, Boom, Shelton, and possibly Boom - if he remains - are quality back ups. I think you roll with Allen at OC but his injury history is an issue. Roll with Havs and Bruss (that’s why he was drafted) on the right side. That leaves Improving the left side of the line and possible center. I don’t like Edwards but he is serviceable.

Add edge, safety, and RB to the to-do list.

I think we are actually good at WR. It wouldn’t mind adding there if it’s the right fit/deal. Same for TE - we do have 2 we are developing but adding a proven bet makes sense.

I don't know the prognosis for Boom or Anchrum or Jackson so I can't guess what management is thinking. Edwards should walk IMHO. Maybe it's my imagination but he seems to get penalized and beat too often. (Not as bad as Evans, who should run not walk) That's why I don't take too much stock in PFF scores. A guy like that can make the whole line look bad. Did he miss an assignment and the guy beside him had to make a decision who to block? Then he gets credit for allowing the sack? Or pressure? Never trusted Edwards much but with Whit beside him I think it helped him. I'd think Bruss will get every chance at one of the guard spots. I don't trust Allen's knees. He's missed a ton of games to injury.....much more than Noteboom. I'd like to see them get a C, either in FA (preferrably) or the draft. The big questions are who (under contract) will be healthy by the start of camp and who will they bring in. Who knows?

Exactly. I dont rely on OL grades from anywhere. Eyeball test is all I need. I watch line play a lot during games. We need reinforcements and I think they are coming. The Rams see this over and over in the film room. Now THOSE grades would be awesome to see - to see how the Rams see their own guys relative to the play call/assignment.

PARAM wrote:That old cliche "you win in the trenches". Gotta love it cause it's true.

So how did you determine the original 5 were a below average OL and not just average? Because Buffalo stomped them? How did the original 5 look against Atlanta? Right, it wasn't the original 5. In fact our first next man up, Anchrum (who some fans seem to think 'could be a decent guard') played two snaps. Our next, next man up Jackson filled in. (Now fans have him pegged for LT). Then that line played together the next game and we won again.

So the original 5 sucked and the next two men up filled in and we were 2-1. Then Edwards, Shelton and Noteboom go down and our OL sucked because of poor planning. The same guys who say Noteboom sucks and Allen sucks and Shelton sucks are saying Anchrum could be a good G after 2 snaps this year and Alaric Jackson is a good LT after 2 starts there this year and the better part of 1 game last year.

And that doesn't seem the slight bit off? Forgive me if I don't accept those opinions as unequivocal fact.

Sorry I should of been more indepth,
When I say below average,
I'm comparing to playoff and SB caliber teams,
Not Atlanta or any non playoff contenders.
Once again who did we beat? below avg teams.

Did we have a power house OL during our SB year? No.
But it was good enough because of our skilled player,
and schemes/play calling to balance things out.

So comparing our SB OL to the beginning of the year OL,
We down graded. replacing Whit, a future HOF to Noteboom,
a 3rd pick that really wasn't tested against quality OLB/Edge Rushers.
Then during his first five games, giving up 5 sack, and so many QB hits.
Then replacing Corbett, an above avg G for a UDFA C/G/Shelton,
who was getting beat or pushed back from the middle of the OL.
Personally, I didnt like putting Allen & Shelton next to each other.
Both are too small against power house DT.

During games I key on the OL,
and we were below avg against playoff caliber teams.
Didn't come close to winning against playoff teams.

Example, Cowboys during their SB year in the 90s
They had a power house OL, they kept on running the same plays.
and they couldn't be stopped.
Smith ran up the middle with massive holes,
then they used play action, and the D trying to stop the run,
gets burnt on deep passes.

McVay had a lesser quality of an OL compare to Dallas OL from the 90s,
But he could scheme up plays to help out his OL.
But he could only do so much with this years team, a below avg OL

Looks like Mcvay had issues with Hendo and Akers. Hendo never talks this is crazy.

Time to see what Kyren Williams is all about.

Well reasoned post. It is just crazy that we had little injury issues with the o-line last year (just some missed games here and there) to a complete destruction. I mean we knew Boom was prone to injury but his in particular was a freak thing. I still know how you better prepare for 4 guys out for the year and 4 others missing significant time.

Williams makes Henderson redundant. Maybe a slight upgrade.
Still seems like there is something tweaky in the RB room. New RB coach T Brown? Each other? McV's O?
Or are they making room for a street urchin?

I think it came down to they want to play Kyren the rest of the season, than the 3rd back has to play special teams which Henderson probably didnt want to do...
