the afl isn't a complicated conversation, nor is the super bowl participation history of teams that started in the afl... if someone wants to exclude the bengals and dolphins from the afl in an effort to support a ridiculous claim, i.e. include just 8 afl teams instead of 10, it still doesn't wash...

super bowl appearances:
- afl (8 teams) - 32
- nfl (22 teams) - 65

super bowl appearances per team:
- afl (8 teams) - 4.0 appearances per afl team.
- nfl (22 teams) - 3.0 appearances per nfl team.

super bowl wins per team:
- afl (8 teams) - 1.3 super bowl wins per afl team.
- nfl (22 teams) - 1.7 super bowl wins per nfl team.

I hope you don't actually think it's waste of time, I enjoy the conversation and I think it's a good history lesson for the fans that don't go back that far. Hell, I don't go back that far.

As far as the point being made, my perception is that the AFL/AFC hasn't enjoyed as much success as the NFL/NFC but that it is probably slanted by the 80's/90's where the Cowboys/49ers/Redskins seemed to dominate.

I don't know if I'd go so far as to saying there's a conspiracy against the AFL but maybe there's still some bias? I'm sure there is still a feeling of seniority with some of the NFL teams about the AFL teams.
