Kobe's big problem with Shaq was his 'Big Laziness'. Kobe has an unequaled work ethic and Shaq was dominant mostly due to his combination of brute power and relative quickness for a guy his size. Bryant didn't dig it and when the team failed to win it all they looked at each other.

I was watching when Shaq dissed the owner running back after making a dominating play on someone and gave Dr Buss (in the crowd) the 'pay me' gesture. He was done not long after that.

I remember the game where Kobe didn't shoot and I thought at first that he was acting like a baby, then I accepted he was exaggerating what they told him to do but make his point. Cocky but effective because the other guys were tossin' bricks.

That team back then almost wasn't fair. Same as Showtime and Jerry, Wilt, Happy, Jim and Stumpy weren't half bad either.

Stumpy? Was that Gail Goodrich? Stumpy, hadn't heard that nickname... Jim was McMillan, so had to be GG, wonder whatever happened to Hairston, he just went away... I remember that no shoot 1st half as well, that was when Kobe was asked to be more of a facilitator & that was the word they used, facilitator & Jackson was the one that asked him to be a facilitator... Isn't the draft week after next?

Yeah stumpy was Goodrich, i think he had the record for most consecutive free throws made at one point.

I loved that team, still remember most of them: Keith Erickson and some guy named Pat Reilly (whatever happened to him?) coming off the bench. Flynn Robinson, John Q. Trapp, Leroy Ellis and Elgin who retired early in the season. I have the team picture somewhere.

Is there anything the internet can't do:

Cool pic Elvis. That was a great team. I broke into the league / fandom with them. Modeled my jumper after West. Coach Sharman's boy was my HS BB coach. We got lot's of cool stories.

Side note; My daughter works in Laguna Beach at a high end restaurant while in school. I was hanging with her the other evening and Trevor Ariza came in on his way to the Finals game in Oklland. We see Majic around here a lot too. Then ther's "bean". Forget how tall those guys are until you stand next to one.
I still have James Worthy's practice warm up sweat shirt. It's like a dress on me.

The draft is this coming Thursday night RD. Who so you have the Lakers drafting at #2? Okafor, Russell or Porzinga? The Lakers have been a Center-centric team but the game has changed where the big's don't offer much other than D. Okafor isn't known for his D like Towns (who will go 1st IMO).
Some think Russell will be the next Harden though. I'll go with the old 'Chickism' that 'you can't coach height" and draft the 'big'.

Okafor is my pick HS, guy has a nice offensive game & don't remember him missing an outside shot (editing) during his workout, so he can slide to power forward when they go big, he's 6'11" 19 years old & still growing, drawback? Defense imo, but that can be taught & he'll probably top out @ 7"1" or 7"2", he could go #1 overall easily too imo...
I met Wilt Chamberlain years ago at the Forum in Inglewood, had a buddy that worked at the Forum, Wilt was there for some rehab stuff, biggest man I ever saw, blotted out the sun, very friendly & nice guy, saw Jerry West there as well but never met him...
I loved that "Streak" team, but Showtime was so fun to watch...
In that pic above Pat Reilly & Keith Erickson had the hair thing going on didn't they? LOL

There used to be a place in West Hollywood call Flippers. It was a roller skating rink and bands would play on a stage in the center, pretty sure i saw Chris Isaac there.

But one night Kareem was there with his girlfriend (i'm gonna guess it was her idea). Anyway, the only thing more insane than Kareem Abdul Jabbar is Kareem on roller skates. At one point i skated right next to him just to see what it would be like. Felt like my head and shoulders were at his hip but that's probably an exaggeration...

That's how I felt Elvis when I met Wilt Chamberlain, I was almost speechless at his size & when we shook hands it was like a needle in a haystack, his hand just engulfed my hand & disappeared...LOL
I watched a diving show on tv once where Kareem was one of the divers, these were those double & triple deck platforms & Kareem was doing flips & looked just like you'd expect a 7'2" man to look, pretty awkward, I was just shocked he'd even try those dives cuz it was pretty evident that wasn't his "go to" sport...It was a few years ago, maybe one of these guys saw it to, it was National tv...

Hope you have Directv HS because I've been watching the Lakers channel with the pre-draft predictions & ALL the prognastigators (dang I spelled it) have us taking Okafor...Its funny that I hear them saying the same things about him that I've been saying all along, "back to the rim offensive game, continuing to grow (he's 19 & 6'11"), will learn to play defense at the pro level & that he already has a polished pro offensive game now which will get better"...
There have also been some rumblings about a Laker trade with the Sacto Kings for Boogie Cousins who was an All-Star starter at center last year, 25 yrs. old & would love to be a Laker...My personal feelings on that are what would we have to give up AND in the long run would it weaken an already weak roster which we're about to strengthen with 3 picks in the top 34 players, one of which is the #2 pick, probably Okafor...IMO in 2-3 years Okafor, if he works on his defense & grows to 7'2" like many think, he'll be a better player than Cousins, that's speculation at this point though cuz Okafor hasn't played & Cousins is a star NOW & has proven it...
6:30pm on ESPN the draft starts, hope we find out tonight who those 3 picks are at #2, #27 & #34...See you there...

OH MY GAWD! Kupchak picked D'Angelo Russell at #2 ! Unless there's a trade for Cousins gonna happen I'm shocked into dumbness...This guy wasn't on anyones radar...A left handed shooting guard...
