The only reason why I say he won't get cut,,, he actually was playing good during those joint practices...

I don't know what happen to him this last pre-season game, he had a hard time... ,,, maybe to much on his plate from all of those position trying to play....

But if Allen went down, I see Blythe taking over at center,,, and either Demby or Edwards at the RG position

But after four games,, I'm sure Neary will be add Back to the 53

At that time,,, as far as someone getting cut... it could be for some one that's hurt or not playing up to par...

We agree on a lot of that. I think they keep Demby, they had invested some in him. I agree that these last 2 games he has looked bad but that's probably not the final word on him. It could be Blythe slides to center if Allen goes out in the first 4 games, though it;s easier to just plug in a back-up (if Demby can cut it). Dunno. We obviously agree that it looks like Neary is coming back (otherwise why invest all this time in him). In terms of who gets cut, yes by game 4 they could either have a guy banged up or someone who isn't cutting it. Either way they only need less that 600 thousand so it won't be hard to find someone.

Indrid Cold wrote:yeah, the hope is that a vet shakes loose in cuts. There will be someone with more experience...frankly, much better...than Demby available. If that vet can backup at C and G, all the better.

That could happen. But, first, they can't act now like it will...they have to act now like it won't. To cover their bases. I don't know about a vet though. Will a guy you pick up in week 1 after cuts know the offense and the system and the preferred techniques and the protection calls well enough to play in say week 3? I like the idea of picking up a vet castoff--- it's a good way to build a line (adding guys like that) and Rams have done that before and ended up with starters out of it (Gruttadauria, Nutten, Barksdale, Blythe). Heck basically that's what Neary is. I am not convinced though that anyone they might pick up could be ready to play before Neary gets back. (Assuming Neary is coming back.)

All solid points. I'm just down on Demby. Maybe too much; time will tell. And there is one guy available that knows all the line calls...

I think there's a very strong case for 5 safeties and 6 corners... and would argue that there's better talent in the 5th safety and 6th corner than there is in the 4th ILB.

Yeah, Vinny was saying it's a position the Rams only figure to have on the field 30% of the time...

I’d keep six corners and keep Williams. Besides his play... I think he could move into the slot and allow the Rams to move on from Robey next year & save $$.

Webster over Natson. Webster is a baller. If the Rams don’t keep him, we’ll watch him produce somewhere else.
Goddamn we need a backup interior olineman.
I’d love to have Purcell from the Broncos, btw.

Its going to be a tough call between Peterson and Williams,
In the beginning, I had Williams ahead, then Peterson has been playing lights out too...

I have a feeling that S/Scott could be knock off the roster and both Williams and Peterson making the team...

Webster is growing on me,,, he seems to get open and make catches,,,, but I only seen him get two PR, 1 FC and 1 for 7yds, each on separate games... plus his KR....

I need to see him more on PR,,, maybe we are not seeing him that much in PS games, but he is probably getting the opportunity in Thousand Oak camp...

But the only beat writer that states anything, is VinnyB,,, and he states that JoJo is the best PR at T.O Camp...

KR is not that important anymore, cause most kickers, kick it out the end zone...

Yes, I'm kind of worried too for our back O-line,,,
From just a naked eye,,, our best O-lineman that would come off the bench, is Edwards,,, He would be my first choice and be our Six man up....

If C/Allen was to get hurt, slide Blythe over, and Edwards should move over to RG...

Demby and Evans,,, are not looking too good.... each of them seem to get beat on some plays, then other plays the make good blocks...
They are not consistence....

But unless the RAMs go after somebody in FA,,, those three will be our backups in Edwards, Demby and Evans...

I have to go back and look at the tapes on OG Brewer,,, he has the big size...

As far as our LB and DE,,, I like Patrick, Allen Durham and Howard is starting to make some plays...

Practice Squad

So much is still up in the air on this loaded roster, but here are a few of my impressions as to players that have made the 53...

In no particular order, btw.

Both Allen and Wolford have flashed. Each might be nice to have for backup next year after Bortles’ departure. Neither will make the 53, but practice squad? Hopefully one could stick there.

Kelly has locked up that 4th RB position.

Mundt will be our 3rd TE again this year. The rookies have been disappointments.

Thomas and Hodge have both impressed and I can’t see the Rams letting either get away. The WR depth on this team is just sick and there will be heartbreaking cuts in 7 days. Several Ram cuts will be on other NFL rosters. Kudos to the Ram WR coaches. Smh.

Obo and Patrick will not only make the 53, but will see significant snaps this season. Ebu better play very effectively when he sees the field early this year or he could be soon riding the pine. Both Obo and Patrick can PLAY at this level. Very, very nice “problem” to have.

It looks like Hager has been handed the starting job, but his hold on it might not be all that secure. Allen looks like an instinctive player that just keeps making play after play. I could actually see Allen maybe be starting by game 6 or so. I’m serious.

Peterson is a better CB than Troy Hill. And how can the Rams keep Hill and cut a Darious Williams, contract or no contract? Especially with both Talib and Peters in their final contract year? Gotta look at the long range Big Picture here, y’all. Sigh...

Nick Scott has made the 53. Heck, he made it on draft day, lol. Also, I think Steven Parker is now 50-50 to make the 53. Sorry, Christian.

Still one week to go in the preseason, so stay tuned. That DL bottom depth is still kinda murky to me, for example. But the above seem quite likely to me at this point, anyway.

It's amazing what a couple of years with good management can do for a roster. Gone are the days of hoping our 6th and 7th rounders can contribute.

Just read an article about Clowney being traded within 48 hours but I have to take it with a heavy bag of salt considering the source (Lombardi). Rumor, speculation or based on fact, he said they are looking for a WR to compliment Hopkins. As much as I'd hate to get rid of him, Reynolds and a low round draft pick for Clowney would be a coup. How good would the D front be then????? Donald, Clowney, Matthews, Fowler, etc.

They couldn't afford that. It;s one thing to have a big defensive contract and a big qb contract on the same team (an eventuality that is on its way). It's anothing thing to try that with TWO big defensive contracts.

And that's longterm. Short term, they would need to clear space to afford Clowney. That's nearly 16 M. They could get that kind of space by cutting both Brockers and Talib.

I like the defense as is. I think it will be fine with what they have.

Agree with all of that. Especially the bolded.
