What we know is that either Goff is gone or he will compete for the QB position.

Anyone who thinks the McVay Snead narrative is just talk and Goff is the guy regardless is living in fantasy land.

Thing is, even if Goff isn’t traded and he has to compete for the job, how will that work?

He still has to run McVays offense. Will McVay have one offense for Goff and a separate one for Wolford or another mobile QB?

That’s doesn’t sound like a good plan.

Thanks for clarifying that. :roll2:

If no action is taken, then it’s all talk. That’s what “all talk” means in this context.

No it doesn’t. Of course, not many people think that Goff will truly be in a competition with Wolford or any of the QBs currently under contract. If they bring in someone with experience or draft a QB, who knows how that might play out?

I’m sure that if Goff is traded, you’ll be right on cue acting like no surprise here.

Actually, I find it amusing how you’re snarky towards anyone who has a different view that you do, and when they are turn out to be right you never say you got it wrong.

You should be a politician.

LOL. Buy a mirror.

If Goff is traded, I’ll be the first to say I’m surprised and that my projection was wrong. Then I’ll probably tell you how I’m hopeful that the trade will be to our benefit, as I welcome the new QB.

If Goff is the starter in September, we’ll see what level of contrition you convey. I suspect it will be something like, “yes, but....”

You two..

I'd have to think that in every camp the brass is looking for the best players to be the starters. QBs included unless that team has a clear choice.

I doubt McV had an epiphany and suddenly doesn't like tall people or must have a running qb.

Goff has won plenty of games even though his numbers are down lately. Its pretty obvious why. Get him some protection and that deep weapon and let him thrive.
If Goff doesn't thrive in an improved situation, I'd rather draft a starter ready hybrid rookie for cap reasons.

Now if Snead is able to pull a rabbit out of his hat and get a chance at a guy like Watson, do it.

Goff was in the bottom 1/3 of the NFL in QB rating and that does not include fumbles. There likely is a better choice available. Just amounts to how much shit Snead and McVay are willing to swallow to finally pull the plug on an overpaid, mediocre QB.

I'll say it right now.

If Goff is the starter in September, l'll be surprised and my projection was wrong. And I hope Goff plays well and we go back to the SB.

See, I did that without taking a nasty shot at anyone.

We all know Goff’s shortcomings. The $134M question is...what’s the alternative?

I think there's a few talking heads that are zeroing in on what's happening. All doors are open to improve at QB spot. Trade is unlikely but if a unicorn situation happens, they'll do it. McVay seems to have tried a lot to work with Goff and I think calling him out in the most aggressive way is the last bullet in his gun. At this point, Goff isn't good enough so at the bare minimum you challenge him to put the work in by saying there's a competition.

Goff's issues aren't arm strength or even executing a game plan. They're consistency. Just about every experience in my life has told me that consistency comes down to preparation. I suspect that Goff isn't putting the prep work in. People have joked that he's got a hot GF and so he's distracted. I think the joke is a little closer to the truth. I suspect that Goff isn't grinding. I think we see this when he has a bad game and bounces back and has a good game. I think it's a clear sign of a guy who eases up when things go well. Just my two cents.

Trade unlikely but not impossible. Most likely we keep Goff and tell him he has a short leash. Keep Wolford, let him compete for job (I doubt he can) and most likely bring in a 3rd QB to compete too.

80% Goff is the opening day starter next year after being leaned on extremely hard during the off season and camp.

Of Note: There are things that can cover for Goff's consistency issues on the margin which are upgrading the oline and getting a deep threat. I hope they do this on some level.
