Saying that takes nothing away from what he did today. And most likely they will pile up. Not overnight but they will. I am confident in that because we already know he has the mental toughness for it.

Well ya, he has like 15 real games under his belt and 7 games in the school of Hard Knocks - pun fully intended. He was NAILS today under pressure. ABSOLUTE NAILS - All 4 TDs came against the blitz. He had a hi-low read on the winning TD. The low read was the gimme for a 1st down. Down by 3 in the 4th he went for the kill shot. That takes BALLS.

Thing is we were up, down, up, tied, up, tied, down, up.......

Our first possession of the 2nd half, Goff 0 of 2 and we ran on 3rd and 20....a give up basically.
Tennessee drive misses a 45 yd FG.
Next drive 7 plays 65 yards, 3 of 4 for 19 yards and a TD; Gurley 1 run for 34 yds, 1 run for 10.
Tennessee tied it on the next drive at 20.
Next drive 0-2 passing, Gurley 1 run for 5 yards. On 3rd and 5 Goff hits Kupp in stride five yards past the 1st down and he drops it.
Tennessee take the next drive down for a FG. Now up 23-20
Goff (and Gurley) take the Rams down for 7 (6 plays, 68 yards). Gurley 2 runs 15 yards, Brown a 4 yd run, Goff 2 of 3 for 18 yards and a perfect TD pass under pressure (and a 31 yard PI penalty).
Defense holds Titans
Rams start at the 8. False start...now at the 4. Gurley 0 runs, Goff 2 of 3 for 9 yards.
Defense holds Titans
Rams start at the 20, go to the Tenn 48....eat of almost 4 minutes of clock. Gurley 3 runs for 6 yards, Goff 2 of 5 for 26 yards and both come on 3rd downs.
Defense holds Titans
Rams win.

I think the kid played gutsy today. Came through on 3rd down. Didn't throw any picks. The fumble TD when Brown totally missed his assignment, was probably a fumble for any QB, no matter how many years the QB has played. The kid was 5 of 8 for 55 yards and a TD on 3rd down....with one of the Inc. the Kupp drop.

Gutsy, gutsy game on the road against a good D.

As far as

But for me, it's too soon to declare either way whether he's a consistently clutch qb or not. The examples have to pile up. Saying that takes nothing away from what he did today. And most likely they will pile up. Not overnight but they will.

We're 11-4 West division champs. He's played in some tough games including today. Examples are piling up but every QB isn't faced with "win it in the 4th" when they are on a good team....and chances are that team is good to some degree because of them. Hell if the Rams play like they've been playing, he could be well into his 3rd year (maybe his fourth) before he has enough chances to bring his team back in the 4th (I mean with respect to them "piling up").

So I guess what you're saying in not so many words is, 'it doesn't matter how he plays right now, this year, it'll be sometime next year before I can say, "he's consistently clutch".' Understood.

The Titans OL won that battle. Mariotta was too clean all day. He looked very comfy in the pocket and delivered.

The Titans acted like whiny little bitches. Finger pointing and tantrums were a crack up. They played well but.
The ref's were especially bad,, for both teams!

Things turned out well despite Goff throwing behind his receivers several times early. Missed being aggressive for a 1st down. But 4TD's, c'mon.
Gurley is the best in the league right now. He's dominating people.

Fickin has me concerned. Hopefully the butterflies, flew.

Yeah he was today. No question. And I agree with you...15 games is not a lot. The clutch moments that win games will mount up as the number of games mount up.

The question was never whether he had mental toughness or balls or any of that. We knew all that. If nothing else you only have to look at his response to his freshman year at Cal.

The issue with Goff was always refining his game and his recognition and his responses through experience. That was always the thing. And the kind of plays you're talking about come from that. It comes from learning from games where the Rams were NOT clutch, like the Washington game, 1st Seattle game, and Phil game. They just needed to be battle hardened.

Here's what I said about Goff 3 months ago:

September 23, 2017

In terms of the mental/emotion make-up for the game, he's got that. We knew that from the way he survived his first year at Cal.

In terms of just the artistry of the thrower, he may yet turn out to be the best Rams qb since I started following the team in the 70s. IMO his pure throwing talent is just THAT good.

In terms of reading defenses seeing the field and always being a step ahead mentally when the bullets are flying, he's a work in progress. Not sure how far he will go when it comes to that. I don't have any particular reason to expect a low ceiling...though there will probably be some bumpy games before that matures.

So I would say he IS a franchise qb RIGHT NOW. Just a young one. How far he develops or how fast he develops into a mature one? That's unknown. But I ain't sweating it..

I think Fickin settled down after the missed FG. He isn't Zeurlein but then nobody else is either.

Goff 1st 7 games before the bye:

59.9%; 1719 yards; 7.74 Avg/att; 9 TDs; 4 Ints; 90.3 Rating; 10 sacks; Rams 5-2

Including games against Dallas, Jacksonville, Seattle, Washington

Goff the last 8 games:

63.9%; 2085 yards; 8.18 Avg/att; 19 TDs; 3 Ints; 109.4 Rating; 15 sacks; Rams 6-2

Those last 8 games include Minnesota, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Seattle, Tennessee

I think he's not only improving but doing fine.
Gurley is a beast. Last five weeks: 82 att for 514 yards (6.3 avg) 5 TD; 26 rec. 363 yards (14.0 avg) 3 TDs ...... total touches 108 @ 8.12 yards per touch (Marshall-esk). His 6.1 yards per touch is 0.10 below Marshall's 2001 average. Not too shabby.

Ummmm ok....

According to the parameters it does. Hell we came back twice in the game today and broke a tie twice. WTF is that?
