I think this deal gets done today. Stafford back to the Rams

3 yr. Deal 130 million dollars.

1st year fully guranteed.

2nd two years not guranteed.

last year of contract player option.

Bonus incentive of taking team to NFC championship game and super bowl.

Today Stafford will get title of highest paid player in NFL overall with Career earnings.

Press conference this all centered on Stafford wanting to win super bowl and being committed to L.A.

Ah somebody caught my team/playoffs incentives angle. I think part of year 2 is guaranteed. It should be a creative contract.

If the rumors are true that Stafford wants 50 million and Rams are at 40 million....

Then the Rams should get close or at 50 mill, that is not unreasonable at all to pay Stafford in that realm.

My level of disdain with the Rams on a scale of 1-10 (10 being the most) if they dont sign him.

1. Rams trade Stafford by not getting up close to 50 mill ...8
2. Rams trade Stafford and dont get the 6th pick in the draft....11

As I’ve stated. My guess - 3 years, 150 mil, $90 mil guaranteed with another $10 mil in team/playoffs incentives over the first 2 years. 3rd year not guaranteed and voidable. The Third year is there to spread out the bonuses for cap purposes.

Think i read Rams are at 1 year $40/45 mil, other teams $90-$100 for 2 years. That's not a few bucks difference, that's like $50 mil plus.

If the Rams want Stafford, they should pay him what he's worth.

Anyway, sounds like it's trending the right direction and we could hear today...

Exactly, I pray this was all negotiation tactics and media.

Dare wrote:Jourdain talking about how the Rams got to where they are with Stafford. Very interesting. She alludes to but doesn't mention him by name that Kroenke is more involved in the directional planning than most know. After all he's writing the checks.

I didn't get that impression at all. Which part made you think so?

When she talked about how much he's been paid. Unlike most I know he hasn't been shortchanged as a Ram. He's made more here than in Detroit per year. He's been averaging $35M / year which in the real world is a lot of money. The Rams have paid him in excess of $140M over 4 years.

She talked about the structure of some of the rookie contracts that will come due for extension early. I'm sorry but a one year rental of a QB isn't worth $50M/year. It's fine for other teams trying to force the SB window open but the Rams are already in their window they need a LONGTERM solution at QB1. This isn't 2021 anymore. They got their Lombardi with a lot of hired guns. Kroenke wants a sustainable roster solution and they are well on their way by crushing the last two drafts.

IMO the Rams are probably looking at 2 QBs in this draft depending upon McVay's preference on what he wants to evolve his offense. McCord looks like a young Stafford with the same strengths and weaknesses. Leonard is less refined as a pocket passing QB though he simply needs to develop it, but offers a true dual threat. Both have shown good arm strength and accuracy in the deep and intermediate zones.

Jourdain alluded to the need to move on at some point. If the compensation is there I say they take it and I got the feeling Jourdain would agree. Here's the problem IMO. They either get something for him now or risk getting nothing a year from now. They know it was a mistake not to trade Kupp last season. I don't see them making that same mistake now.

One more year of kicking the can down the road is all they are doing by spending $50M and it actually impacts their ability to begin to extend players when they must. That CAP carryover is a very important part of the equation that most ignore. It was one thing to spend millions to take a shot at a Lombardi in 2021. That was then and this is now, and things are a whole lot different. I think Stan has told Snead he want's sustainability and Les has thus far delivered over the past two drafts. I don't see them derailing their plans to be "nice" to Matt. This is a business and sometimes personnel decisions are hard. God knows I've been there.

That was what was important about Snead's interview. This is either play for what we can afford or thanks but no thanks, have a good life in retirement. The Rams are trying to appease Stafford and get something in return while doing so. But at some point a hard line is drawn in the sand and ultimately it's the Ram's decision to make. As much as Sean loves Stafford, he understands what is at stake.

Where did Jourdan say or imply it was coming from Kroenke?
