I don't know that that is an accurate way to describe how everyone feels. Goff was certainly the QB on a SB team but that doesn't give him a free pass regarding his personal performance in perpetuity.

He definitely played well at just the right time in that game but his body of work before and since that game give legitimate cause for doubt. I think we can all agree Goff is having a bad overall season compared the previous two. Too many turnovers. Difficulty in the redzone. The offense as a whole is having a bad season. Run blocking has been bad most the time. Play calling has been iffy. To say Goff is THE problem is very shortsighted.

To say his contract is going to cripple them is shortsighted too. Quarterbacks get paid. Every time a QB gets a new contract people think its too much. In a few years its going to be middle of the road. I hear all about how teams who have their QB on a rookie deal can build a Superbowl team. How many of those teams have won a Superbowl? Not many. Maybe Seattle with Wilson. Philly won with a backup to one of those rookies.

In terms of outcome, that is undeniable.

In terms of individual performance, its very difficult to say. On the one hand, there have been some poor throws and missed opportunities that could be characterized as "unforced errors." Overall, though, I believe that the primary reasons for his statistical downturn arethe performance of the offense as a whole (the OL in particular), and some questionable play calling.

I agree with this completely. Goff is good enough to be worth a long-term commitment. While, at this moment in time, his contract seems very rich... give it a couple of years. Once guys like Mahomes and Watson get their second contracts, Goff's deal will no longer seem that large.

Ultimately, when I look at this team's future, I ask "how can we help Jared Goff succeed," not "should we look to replace Jared Goff."

I'm pretty sure this is the approach the team is taking. I know there are some who woulda rather moved on from him. But I think it has more to do with the instant gratification thing. Face it, if fans were in charge coaches and players would be fired and cut weekly. No team is going to cut a guy who's done what he's done the previous two years. Two years is plenty enough of a sample size to see what he's capable of.
