First start for Urias was a good one. Five innings four hits and nine Ks. One turn of the AAA rotation and the staff has a .78 era.

Maeda looking good so far. We mighta found another gem out of Japan. Hopefully he can ease the sting of losing Greinke. I'm concerned about Kazmir though. Not sure he belongs in the rotation. I guess you can't have 5 solid pitchers these days.

You really shouldn't run on Yasiel it's just not smart. They said this was clocked at 93mph.

Marlins 2B Dee Gordon suspended 80 games after PEDs violation

Miami Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon has been suspended 80 games without pay for violating MLB's performance-enhancing drug policy, the league said early Friday.

The ban is effectively immediately.

The speedy second baseman tested positive for exogenous testosterone and clostebol, performance-enhancing substances, MLB said.

The news was announced soon after the Marlins wrapped up a 5-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gordon played in the game, batted leadoff and went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Marlins players, asked by reporters about the suspension, said they were told not to discuss it.

Gordon, 28, is in his sixth season in the majors. A two-time All-Star, he won the NL batting title last year, when he hit .333 to go with 58 steals and 88 runs scored for the Marlins.

Information from ESPN's Doug Padilla was used in this report.

I thought he turned a corner a couple years ago . . . was it a turn to the dark side, instead?

Marlins All-Star second baseman Dee Gordon has been suspended 80 games by Major League Baseball for violating the league's drug policy.

MLB announced the decision was effective immediately on its Twitter account following Miami's 5-3 victory over the Dodgers on Thursday night.

Times reporter Bill Shaikin tweeted that Gordon tested positive for two banned performance-enhancing substances: testosterone and clostebol. Both substances are in violation of MLB's joint drug prevention and treatment program.

Gordon is the reigning National League batting champion after hitting .333 last season and a two-time All-Star. He won a Golden Glove and Silver Slugger award for NL second basemen last season.

The Dodgers traded him to the Marlins in December of 2014. He had a hit, an RBI and a run scored in the victory Thursday night. He's batting .266 with six stolen bases in 21 games this season.

I hope Ryu and or Frias and or Bols can firm up this starting rotation. Woods has been a major disappointment
