Fans seem to ignore that his need for rest cost them the #3 seed and potentially another Lombardi. It forced the Rams to play on the road in a snow storm. I certainly haven't forgotten and it's why I'm saying it's time to move on. And he wants $55M this year?

What's wild to me is how seemingly unimportant another Championship (and his HoF legacy) is to Stafford, over maximizing a payday. Does he think he has a chance at another Superbowl with any of the other teams showing interest before he retires? The Jets?! HA!!!! The Giants!?!?! HAHAHAHA!!!!! Maybe, MAYBE the Raiders. But I think they are still a good 2 years away.

So in 3 years he MIGHT challenge the league for another title, and that is if his inevitable fall off hasn't hit him hard within that time.

Now, I'm not in his head, so I can't say for certain that the pay day means more than legacy, but it sure feelss like it.

And from the outside looking in, I think the Rams have a much better chance at another title without Stafford, than Stafford has without the Rams.

That's what kills me about this harball approach, the Rams got Matthew his championship, just as much as he got one for the Rams. You spend a decade in Detroit (becooming one of the highest paid players in NFL history) and are Mr. Nice Guy the whole time, but the team that resurected your career and helped put the Lombardi in your hand (oh, and STILL kept you as one of the top 10 highest paid QB's in the league btw, 7th if I'm not mistaken), THIS is the team you're going to strong arm?!?! Really?

Give him his $100 million for the next 2 years. Guarantee every penny. And if that's not good enough, then wave good-bye and move on.

Does Stafford get into the HOF if he didn’t go to the Rams and win a SB? No chance. He still is on the periphery with the voters I believe. He needs another long playoff run and at LEAST another SB appearance to get in. Where does he get that in the next 2, maybe 3 years? He is one big injury away from retirement. Sure, that could happen with the Rams. But, at least with the Rams there is hard evidence he is in immediate playoff contention.

This thing about “respect”. Sure. If 5 extra million “buys you respect”. Have fun in NY, Cleveland, Vegas, Pittsburgh. None of those teams are winning a SB even with him next year. 2026? Raiders maybe. Steelers Maybe. Not that I have a crystal ball but those teams have a lot of missing pieces besides QB.

If Staff plays hard ball the Rams don’t have to do shit. He’s under contract. And, they could still bring in Rodgers or Jimmy G and take a run at the playoffs.

The Raiders would need to work out the trade compensation to their satisfaction, but the team has reached out to Stafford’s camp to express interest, according to league sources, and meeting Stafford’s contract needs would not be an issue. The Raiders want to win now while building up the roster, and addressing their biggest need with Stafford would be a great start for the new regime.

A trade for Stafford could merit a range of compensation for the Rams, who I believe are looking for anything from a first-round pick to an early second-round pick and additional picks and/or capital. The biggest issue between the two sides, as they continue to negotiate, is the difference in their contract numbers, so an acquiring team would have to pay Stafford what he’s looking for.

INDIANAPOLIS — The NFL does not think tampering rules were committed when Raiders minority owner Tom Brady recently met with Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

“There is no issue here,” a league spokesman told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Thursday. “The Rams gave the player permission to speak to the Raiders.”

The Raiders have emerged as a front-runner among multiple teams to acquire Stafford in a trade with the Rams, who gave him permission to speak with other teams to gauge his financial market outside of Los Angeles. No deal is imminent.

Brady has helped spearhead the Raiders’ pursuit of Stafford by selling him on the merits of joining him, new coach Pete Carroll and new general manager John Spytek in Las Vegas. Brady’s meeting with Stafford in Montana raised questions about whether tampering rules were violated because Stafford is still under contract with the Rams.

Stafford, 37, and the Rams are at an impasse on a new contract. He is believed to be seeking a new deal that pays him $50 million per season. It’s uncertain whether he will reach that mark, but NFL sources indicate the Raiders and Stafford’s camp have found common ground on financial parameters.

It’s about coming to terms with the Rams on trade compensation at this point.

Agreeing to compensation

The Rams’ starting point undoubtedly will be the Raiders’ first-round pick at No. 6. However, the Raiders view that pick as a vital component of building the infrastructure around Stafford. He has a limited window, and the Raiders want to maximize it as much as possible.

Carroll and Spytek have consistently mentioned the need to support their quarterback with a strong running game, so Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty could be an attractive option at No. 6.

The Raiders also could opt for Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan to beef up the passing game.

Either way, they want to keep the No. 6 pick at all costs.

The Rams could counter by asking for the Raiders’ second-round pick this year and their 2026 first-round pick. But is that too rich for a 37-year-old quarterback, and could the Raiders talk the Rams down to second-round picks this year and in 2026?

That could depend on how involved other teams are in the pursuit. The Rams have received multiple offers for Stafford, according to league sources. The New York Giants have been aggressive suitors. The Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns and Pittsburgh Steelers are also quarterback-needy teams that could be interested.

That all bodes well for the Rams, who seem resigned to trading Stafford at this point. A bidding war drives up the asking price.

I'm parsing words and splitting hairs here, because I'm grasping. But what does "seem" mean? Is this a purely wild guess on Vinny's part, or is he getting information from somebody who knows something?
