What justification is there for giving the ball to the other team, when our team was the last to possess the ball in the field of play? Does anybody know, or can anybody think of a reason for this rule? Because I can't.

Never understood it either. Sidelines have different rules than end zone. If you fumble out of bounds, you keep possession but if you fumble out of the end zone, the other team gets the ball. In some cases there have been fumbles that the defense didnt even have a part in, and yet they reap the reward. I dont get it.

I thought it wasn't conclusive enough to overturn the call on the field. It was clear it was not a touchdown. But it wasn't as clear it was a fumble. But I'll admit I don't know when a fumble is actually a fumble. He was losing control of the ball before he stepped out but he still had contact with the ball. When is it a fumble? When it starts to come loose? Or when its completely out of his hands?

Yes I hate this reaching for the pylon, the seahawks have done this sort of thing in the past. Better to just keep two hands on the ball

That is the second time this year we got burned on a weird rule. The other was the kick-off return against the Redskins where we committed a 5 yard penalty and they committed a 15 yard personal foul penalty and they spotted the ball inside our five because the fouls happened during the return.

Gurley does have a bad habit of stretching the ball out one-handed. There is a time and place for this based on down and distance. Already had a first down inside the 5 and that is the time to hunker up and drive your way in or not.

I don't fault Gurley for giving it his all.

We hail him for doing that exact same thing with success.

And we have been the receivers of two strange rules this year.

not wild about it either but if that's what it takes to score... my prob is it seems that sometimes players like to add a "style" element, as if they want to be viewed as making it look so easy, which was what gurley's effort on that play struck me as, granted i'm probably just over thinking the thing....

Now that i've watched the first half, it's not clear to me that the Gurley call was a bad call. It's just too close to tell if he was out of bounds and touching the ball at the same time...

That's why its a bad call. Had they called it a fumble on the field, replay cant overturn that. But it wasnt called a fumble, they had to overturn the call based on that same "too close to call" footage

True. But it definitely wasn't a touchdown. The call on the field was clearly wrong.

That call being obviously wrong gave the refs the opportunity to overturn and create their own scenario. They missed that little touch of the ball while TGIII was OB. That should have killed the play. :x
That whole game was off. imo
