Rams’ Tyler Higbee pleads guilty to assault

The Rams drafted tight end Tyler Higbee last year even though he was facing assault charges, and Higbee said at the time that he had acted in self defense. Now Higbee has admitted he’s guilty.

Higbee entered a guilty plea to assaulting a man, causing him to suffer a concussion and brain bleed. He will avoid jail time but must pay restitution to his victim, remain drug and alcohol free, not possess any firearms and perform 250 hours of community service.

The victim was a Saudi national, and witnesses told police that racial slurs were yelled at the man during the incident, but Higbee’s attorney says another person, not Higbee, used the racial slurs.

Higbee played in all 16 games for the Rams as a rookie, starting seven and catching 11 passes for 85 yards and one touchdown. He is unlikely to face NFL discipline because this incident took place before he was an NFL player.

Considering how stupid EVERYONE behaved, the situation was resolved as best as one could hope. The victim could have been killed given the strength of Hig.

Hig is fortunate to avoid prison time, but the requirements of his parole won't be easy to complete. The environment of LA will add to the challenge.

As for the victim, he sounds like a dumbass. Giving him money doesn't sit well, either.

I do not think the NFL can do anything about what a guy does before the draft. Look at the Okla rb (Mixon) who got drafted this year. He isn't facing any type of suspension either.
FWIW, I think the guy deserved what Higby did to him. To harass a guy's girlfriend like that, and then to follow them is asking for trouble.

Fair Nuff. But the felony evading.... No. Putting the general public at risk to get away from police... I'm not a fan. If the police want to talk to you, deal with it like a man. Don't put lives at risk because you're running from crap.

It's good to give a guy a second chance. After all, the NFL gave Leonard Little, Ray Lewis and Donte Stallworth second shots. This incident didn't read like he was the irresponsible, cocky, BMOC aggressor. It actually reads like he left to get away from a confrontation. Of course who knows the whole story but he and the 'victim'. If Higbee is indeed a "punk", something else will surely happen. If he keeps his nose clean, it'll all be forgotten.

Times have changed. Word around the camp fire is that John Riggins while at KU beat the krap out of someone every night he went to a bar. And that was about every night. Sounds like Higbee's guy was begging to get the krap beaten out of him.

Imagine if Ted Williams was in professional sports today .... the guy who purposely threw bats into the stands and who brought firearms to the stadium and fired rounds at rats in Yankee Stadium and birds in Fenway park. the guy was a total nut case
