I remember watching Magic Johnson his first game. I knew immediately we were going on a run. The first time I saw ED I got the same feeling. More recently watching TGII run the rock we all got that feeling again. What I am the most anxious about is watching Goff play in a real game situation and seeing if any of those type thoughts come to mind.

Yeah, and of course last year pre-season he went 13/15 for 156 yards and 3 TD for a 149.6 rating
And rewarded the team with only 19 TD and an 86.4 rating...

yep... and that's why i posted sam's numbers, to underscore just how meaningless preseason is in terms of how a team will fare during the regular season or how a player will fare...

look at bortles' rookie year, lights out in the preseason. how did that rookie regular season go? very rough. look at austin davis, had a smokin' 2014 preseason, what did that tell us about what sort of regular season starter he would eventually become? mark sanchez last preseason? lights out, 105+ qb rating as he made his case to start over sam... how did mark do coming off the bench to spot sam? 0-2, 4 tds, 4 picks and barely an 80 qb rating, now he's a bronco.. and did any projected starting qb have a more discouraging preseason last year than carr? yet he put together a nice sophomore year and now has most football talking heads raving about him, it goes on and and on....

and how about preseason standings/records vs regular season standings/records, all over the place, last season they seemed to jive rather nicely, how about the year before, 2014? the vikes were 4-0 but finished the season 7-9. giants were 5-0 and finished the season 6-10, the cards were 1-3 and finished the season 11-5. colts were 0-4 and finished the season 11-5. the steelers were 1-3 and finished the season 11-5. again, it goes on and on...

here's the thing, projected starters will typically play only 1-2 games worth of snaps during the preseason, spread over 4 games... if a starter struggled out the gates during the regular season, in the first game or two, would it really make sense to write him off? would it make sense to claim you've seen enough and that you know what kind of player the team has in him? of course not. yet it seems that more than a few folks have that mindset when it comes to preseason play, if a guy struggles the sky is falling, if he's lights out mardi gras, just doesn't make much sense to me...

and of course the snaps projected starters play during the preseason are typically not game-planned, nothing like the regular season anyway, nor do the snaps encompass a full game, they don't reflect the ebb and flow of a full game, the tempo of a full game, the speed or required stamina of a full game. yet we're to believe that preseason play is a legitimate representation of things to come? really?

anyhoo, the preseason is always fun, a chance to finally see those awesome horns flying around the field again.. and i can't wait so see goff in horns, hope he looks as sharp as tacks, and follows it up with looking like the real deal once the real bullets start to fly.

so in terms of looking forward to watching the rams play during the preseason we've boarded the same ship, the ss hell yeah it's meaningful! :D in terms of what the games will tell us about the regular season, i.e. how well the rams will do, how well the rams players will do once the regular season starts? me? i've booked passage on the ss meaningless.

I disagree entirely.
I use to agree with what you say but now I dont.

Theres already plenty of positive press about teams coming from how they are doing in their scrimmages with other teams that will be telling in the immediate future.

the Patriots had a lousy scrimmage against the Saints.
Both the Saints offense and D. did great,so did Brees.
Cam has had a not so good few days already, throwing picks. Remember, even though they made it to a SB,this guy threw only half as much as most QBs.
He's not good at it and cant run forever. This will translate to a worse season coming.
The Falcons and Ryan have a lot of positive press coming out.
So do the Giants. Eli threw for 35 TDs last year and 4000 yards and they beefed up their defense.
And of course Minn. is angry about the Seattle game last year and its SB or bust in every clipping ....virtual clipping on the internet of course :D

no one cared about most of these teams last year. I'll already bet they all do well. Theyll look good in preseason and that will carry over.

Only a few more days to a meaningless game and yet here I am excited. I'm looking forward to this one. Its just the first preseason game but it marks the first time we get to see them action. Lets us know football season is finally here. Not long before that Monday night against the hated 49ers. And the beginning of new hopes for the good guys. 8-)
