Isn't there room to build something adjacent where the Q sits now? A small entertainment mall / hotel area? They talked about building the new stadium on the other side of the property.
I imagine they are turning over all the stones but they are looking under the Convadium stones first.

Is that part of the deal? If they are approved the Chargers get a year 2 and the Raiders get no remedy? WOW. If true, I will have to amend the LA part of my earlier take. Also be plenty pleased.
Looks like the Chargers are all about blocking other teams. Now if they could get the tackle part down as well they might get a few more W's.... 8-)

Its absolutely true, Its just not mentioned very often.

From the NFL's ruling.

"The option [for the Chargers to move to L.A.] shall expire on January 15, 2017, unless a referendum to approve public financing for a new stadium in San Diego is approved prior to November 15, 2016, in which case the Los Angeles Opportunities Committee may, at the Chargers' request, extend the option up to January 15, 2018."

Thanks trueblue&gold
but does that automatically close the Raiders window or bump it another year. By then Alameda may crumble.

No it doesn't automatically bump the Raiders but they need to get something rolling, They cannot afford to go potentially 2 years sitting on the sidelines hoping LA becomes available. I still believe that the NFL does not want the Raiders in LA.

Everything hinges on the voters. San Diego voters have turned down public financing for a football stadium before, and the feeling is they will turn Spanos down again.
I spent the weekend in El Cajon and Mira Mesa this past weekend and everywhere I went, supermarket, gas station restraunt, I asked people about the Chargers and voting for a new football stadium. Most people could care less about the Chargers and even less about a new stadium. The Charger fans I did talk to seemed horribly miss imformed. A lot thought the Chargers moving to LA was a done deal. Others thought a new stadium in SD was a done deal. But almost all the locals agreed, they won't vote to finance a new stadium, they pay too much in taxes already.. Spanos better have a plan for that to happen. (Goldmann-Sachs on auto-dial?)

Davis is in a deep corner.

He can't afford a stadium and he can't afford to move the team. The guys net worth is basically the value of his team.

From my seat I can only see that someone gives him a free stadium, shares Levi Stadium with the Whiners, or sells the team.

I see Levi stadium in their future.

Just Curious....
Does anyone Live in San Diego (or the surrounding suburbs), who has a good "feel" for what the City Government wants ??
..
Spanos in my opinion - burnt a LOT of "good faith" - Not Only with Charger Fans, but with the City Government itself.
Has the City come to the realization this is all about Spanos' greed ??
..
Just wondering, IF the City is saying: "Here's our best, and last solution. Take it, or leave it."
..
ANY San Diego Natives, involved in local politics - please share thoughts.

Lived in San Diego for 13 years. I currently live in south Orange county but family still lives in San Diego. I also listen to a lot of Mighty 1090 ( I spent about 4-5 hours a day commuting to Century City) so consider myself to be fairly plugged in to what is going on down there. In talking with my dad, he still feels that a vote will fail. There just isn't the appetite to spend public money down there. A good example of this is a few years back, a vote was on the ballot to budget a few million for some new helicopters to be used to fight wildfires and it was voted down. The Hoteliers are a very powerful lobby in San Diego and the Mayor leans towards them. The Convention center is a huge obstacle in the way of getting a new Stadium done. Doesn't mean it cannot be accomplished but from what I know and what I have heard, I see the Chargers up here in 2017.
