That said two things stand out to me. The Rams are not going to commit to a long term deal. He's essentially on a year to year basis. They committed an additional $4M guaranteed money to 2025 but that's basically it. IMO what their concern is "another Gurley", and getting too deep financially with a player with a known injury issue. Stafford is wearing a compression wrap on his throwing arm. He has had a chronic issue with tendonitis. As someone who suffers from tendonitis I know why the Rams are concerned. Tendons are bundles of fiberous strands. Chonic inflamation of these fibers eventually lead to their breaking down. At Stafford's age there is no coming back from that when it degenerates to that degree. It's already showing in his deep accuracy. It was subtly on display on that deep throw to Tutu in the 4th quarter. It was offline and Tutu needed to adjust to the throw. It was a great catch by Tutu, but a throw that wasn't as good as we saw say in 2021. We have seen him miss on throws into the endzone that two years ago he made routinely. Go back and look at if you don't believe me. It was offline and short. The Rams will be very remiss if they don't start planning for the long term at QB1. Better a year early than a year late. Sean's preference would be an experienced vet, but top end QBs regardless of age are not easy to find. Kirk Cousins comes to mind as he's the same age as Matt and plays much in the same manner and Raheem has Penix redshirting this year. I think Cousins will be at the top of their list. It wouldn't surprise me if a trade wasn't worked out after the season. Cousins would love it because he's like Stafford was in 2021. Kirk has only been to the playoffs 3 times with no SB appearances. But another QB came to mind while I was watching the Charger game. Justin Fields showed me during the game that he has come a long way from his being a rookie. He came into the NFL needing to learn to read defenses. He's no Stafford but he appears to have progressed in his development in that regard. Regardless I'm concerned that the Rams will back themselves into a corner and fall victim to a clearly forseeable QB1 injury. Like I said in another post even Stafford knows what's going on with his arm which is why he made the fuss about guaranteed money. This could be his last opportunity for that second ring. All the injuries this year only highlight the impact that they have on a team's performance. That impact is magnified when it's your QB1. by rams74 3 months 1 week ago Total posts: 1592 Joined: Nov 19 2015 Glendale, Arizona Pro Bowl Stafford in Camp, Has Deal POST #24 Dare wrote:Matt is playing as well as I've ever seen him. Aaron already left. Anybody else still wearing a Rams uniform you want gone because they're too good? We're barely 3 games into an active season. The offseason is still months away. Why not save the tar and feathers until then, when there's nothing else to talk about? Sheesh.
