Joe Pendleton wrote:agreed, same thing happened to San Francisco.. and then downtown San Diego followed suit 10 yrs later (it's like zombieland now). it's so sad because this old cat remembers both those towns as totally great, fun places to go for a game/weekend..

We did a bachelor party weekend in Memphis in 2001 that included an XFL game. I don't remember much except for having a good time.

It's not just downtown Memphis but the whole metro area. There's a real malaise in the air. Even all the way out to the nice suburban areas like Germantown and Olive Branch. Nashville is just totally owning the state.

I'm really sorry to hear about all this. In the '90s, during the time when the NFL shunned Memphis and the Oilers came to town (and the Rams moved to STL), I lived in Germantown and worked in mid-town. Memphis had a really nice vibe in those days. It's sad to hear.

A relative of mine lived by Buckingham Farms and Germantown. Made mad money as an air traffic controller at the super busy Memphis airport. His family moved (of all places) to Chicago because of the overall decline of the Memphis area. That tells you something right there.

I also remember Midtown Memphis being better back then. There's still a few decent places but it's not what it was. Now it's just "meh-town"
