They sacrificed 2023 for 2024 and even given that are doing far better than expected.

Yes that is correct, BUT that aggressive effort can start with this trade deadline as the Rams have draft pick capital again (as Jourdan has mentioned several times). If the Rams continue to compete for playoff spot I would expect them to ramp up their aggression for now and the future.

It’s about cash and cap space in the near term, not just draft capital. I agree they might make a move. But if they are competitive as is and don’t want to/can’t do what it takes to rise to the elite level, why wouldn’t they just roll with for them there this season, let the chips fall, and gain that experience for the young guns going forward? IE they aren’t winning the SB this year and unless they think they can by making moves, moves won’t get made this season.

I agree but usually you can make the money work. I expect the Rams to kick tires on various options at a minimum, if they are competitive over the coming weeks. Better to get someone into the Rams system sooner than later if you expect to compete for something more in 2024. Im just saying that I think they will try, doesnt mean anything will actually happen. But it could give them more upside for 23, but more for 24 and 25.

With a need of a big physical DT/NT to replace Brown,

and a possible edge rusher.

Would the RAMs be willing to try and sign a FA vet to a min salary contract like:

Michael Brocker (AD would love playing with his old buddy next to him again)
or
Akeim Hicks (if he is willing to sign to a vet min contract)

and for edge rusher:

Robert Quinn (reunite with the RAMs and AD)

All of these guy would fit in,

Because they would be rotating in

and not being gased,

getting about 50 to 60% of snaps with our youth DL.

As long as we're talking about available former Rams, the Packers released Justin Hollins a couple of days ago. So he's available, and he would be cheap.

Think i read Packers resigned Hollins.

With Brockers and Quinn available, maybe they're done?

There have been some implications that if the Rams were competitive near the trade deadline they might make some moves. The next couple weeks will tell the tale...

Mathis only played 10 snaps on D..

The stats I saw say Mathis had 2 pressures in 10 snaps.

Here's where I got that from though I don't know their source.

from: https://www.turfshowtimes.com/2023/10/1 ... vin-dotson

Despite playing just 10 snaps, Mathis had two pressures and his 14.3 percent pressure percentage ranked tenth among edge rushers with at least five pass rush snaps.

actionjack wrote:I completely agree with your viewpoint except for one thing.... Matthew Stafford. We are already somewhat wasting one of his few remaining years this year. How many more seasons do we have a top 10 QB Stafford, another 2-3 seasons? Not sure the Rams can just wait for guys to possibly develop. The window really starts next year (maybe this year with some moves).

Stafford for another 2 - 3 seasons? So we have to contend for a SB this year? Why not see how the kids develop, keep the ones who do pan out or show a lot of promise and fill in the holes via free agency next year when the bank account is bigger and they can spend it over a few years? Somebody (zn?) brought up a good point. Perhaps nobody trades for Burns this year and the Rams sign him next year? Perhaps somebody does trade for him but doesn't extend him and uses him as a 1 year rental? Free agent in 2024. There are so many more possibilities in 2024, including another draft. I like the sit tight strategy, give the kids a lot of experience, perhaps even make the postseason for more experience and attack in 2024. Like I said, I don't believe a singular acquisition is going to bring us a Lombardi this year. So acquire multiple guys next year in free agency, the draft and keep the best of the rest on the roster from this year. Sounds like a solid plan to me.

I am all for getting a difference maker at a position if need if the contract and cost (draft capital) make sense and said player is signed for at least the next 3 years. I don’t want rentals as I am sure you don’t either.

I’m just saying that if this develops and has success over .500 and looks like a playoff contender, the Rams might stand pat to see what this team can do. But as you are inferring, if they are that good, why not push the envelope as anything can happen in the playoffs.

I just think they are more than 1 player away from knocking off the top tier teams in either conference. They need some top players and they need the players they already have to get better.

We have 3 weeks until the deadline. Gonna be interesting to see what happens.
