From game 1 in 2017 to before the bye last year, counting the Atlanta game, Goff threw 13 picks in 28 games.

Since the bye last year he has thrown 11 picks in 11 games. Even if you discount the Chicago game, as some want to, that's still 7 picks in 10 games, which is worse than the previous 13 picks in 28 games.

McVay will work on this, he doesn't tolerate picks the way Martz did.

After the second pick, they showed McVay and Goff on the sideline, and Sean did not look pleased. He's usually pretty measured when speaking to players in front of the cameras, so this was noteworthy to me. Goff, to his credit, acknowledged his error after the game.

Agree strongly on this.

More than anything, it’s the picks that upset me the most about Goff game. That last pick made me livid.

Clean up the picks and I’m good with his game.

Just going from watching the game on Sunday, i don't blame Goff on the strip. Garret made an incredible play to get his hand on the ball while Goff was at the furthest back point of his throwing motion. I don't think Goff was being reckless or showing poor pocket presence, just a really great play by Garret that doesn't get made the great majority of the time.

On the 2nd pick i think the argument that Goff shouldn't be making that throw in that game situation is solid but it's also a throw he's made successfully a lot, getting the ball over the linebacker. I don't think it was a case of Goff not seeing the LB as much it was him thinking he could make a throw he's made in the past...

I can see that but I think the truly great one's get to a point where they're comfortable slicing up a defense instead of taking those huge chunk plays. Brady, for example, is always patient and willing to keep things moving forward in whatever form that takes. Montana was like that too.

In that particular situation I think Goff needs to learn that the dumpoff to Gurley is the right play. Take the easy, open, short pass for positive yards and keep the clock moving. It's fixable but there's a time to be aggressive and a time to be smart/conservative.

I'm really temped to deny the premise of the question, that we need to adjust and haven't. I'm not sure how true either of those things are. But not ready/able to make decent argument either.

I will say this, the Patriots held us to 3 points. Since then we've scored 26 2/3 points per game.

The Patriots are averaging giving up 1 offensive point per game...

Certainly, a rejection of the premise (which was deliberately leading) is a fair response.

not sure where long got his info, but it's way off from what i can tell.... through week 3 pff has graded the rams oline as follows:

whitworth - 41st among 76 tackles
havenstein - 69th among 76 tackles
blythe - 55th among 74 guards
noteboom - 72nd among 74 guards
demby - 74th among 74 guards
allen - 28th among 32 centers

they also offered this post week 3 summary:

Los Angeles Rams

Why fans should be hopeful

While many were worried about a potential Super Bowl hangover for the Rams, that hasn’t been the case through three weeks. Wide receiver Cooper Kupp is off to a great start, ranking fifth among all receivers with at least 20 targets with an average of 2.58 yards per route run.

Aaron Donald has just one sack through three games, but he has still been dominant, registering 14 total pressures on 111 pass-rushing snaps. Four of his five solo tackles have resulted in a defensive stop, highlighting his work against the run, and it shouldn’t come as a shock when his sack numbers rise again in the coming weeks.

Why fans should be concerned

If there is a weak spot on the Rams offense right now, it’s the offensive line. Left tackle Andrew Whitworth is the highest-graded player on the line, but even he has a PFF grade of just 60.0 so far this season. That itself isn’t a bad grade, but it’s not what you’d be looking for from your best player on the offensive line. Through three weeks, the group has allowed 49 total pressures, something they’ll need to improve upon as the season goes on.

snackdaddy wrote:I remember a comment about Martz on why he never got pissed at Warner after throwing a pick. He once told Warner "Don't sweat it. You're just playing football. Keep attacking them". That was the pedal to the metal attitude Martz had about the game. Keep attacking. I see the same with McVay. But maybe not as reckless.

I heard Phil Simms say Parcells said something similar to him. IIRC it was, "if you don't throw a pick or two today, you're not trying". Picks are going to happen. Tipped balls, great plays by the DB, incorrect routes and bad throws. I haven't analyzed every pick Goff has throw but I'd bet half (or less) were of the latter variety.

Were adjustments made (in the 2nd half) vs Cleveland?

The Rams had 12 first downs in the 2nd half, 8 in the first
They had 79 rushing yards, 11 in the first half
They had 122 passing yards, 133 in the first half
They weren't sacked and were sacked twice in the first half.
They scored 17 points in the 2nd, 3 in the first half.

And we won.
