This joker will be used and moved around a lot when they run 12-P. Hopkins ain’t it. Higs isn’t either. So there are 2 vets and the Rook who will likely be the guy moved to the PS

JMO.

Personally, I feel they will keep 4 TEs,
Reason being, I feel they will do a heavy set of 12 PG this year.
Because we'll have two young OL in Avila & Bruss.
Plus to help our OL in blocking,
to use a heavy dose in the run game, and to help protect Stafford.

We all know that the order will be Higbee, Hopkins, & Long,
with Allen being IA for the future.

I just don't see the RAMs cutting one of these guys,
We're familiar with Hig & Hop,
The new comers are 2021/3rd rd/Long, 6-5 255 who we got in a trade.
Then we drafted 2023 5th rd/Allen, 6-6 250,
and no way, he will be cut and make it to the PS.
Allen is the same size and built as Higbee replacement if he leaves for FA in 24

Solid take. Totally agree they will use more true 12P. But, it think MCV is trying to emulate some of the power/lead game with a versatile FB like Shanny does. We will see if one of these TEs can do that. And, you are probably right on 4 TE with the rookie being one of them/won’t make it to the PS. So the new guy might just be a camp body.

I wonder if Long can play FB at all??1

Rams site says we have 6 TEs on the roster??

But normally when contract details become available, there are a few people on Twitter who tweet the details. I've been traveling some too but i haven't seen it...

Spotrac now shows Michel at $1,080,000 with a cap hit of 940k which is what OTC had been showing all along. Spotrac still isn't showing Witherspoon but you can only assume OTC has that one right too.

Maybe the difference is Spotrac waits until the contract officially counts against the cap? Otherwise i can't think of any rhyme or reason for the delay.

Rams have about 12 mil in cap space counting just the top 51 contracts.

Interesting to me that the Rams choose not to add any defensive vet help for the DL and OLB or corner. Let the games begin!!

Pro Football Reference had him listed as a DB. I thought 6'4" 224, man that's a lot of wood to bring at S. But here's something from Bears land:

The Chicago Bears are cutting two notable players from their special teams unit to create room on their roster for their latest two free agent signings.

According to the team’s official transaction wire for July 25, the Bears waived veteran punter Ryan Anderson and insider linebacker Sterling Weatherford — a core special teams contributor in 2022 — from their training-camp roster on Tuesday.

Weatherford Played 4th-Most Special Teams Snaps in 2023
Weatherford was an under-the-radar rookie contributor for the Bears during the 2022 season. While he did not get an opportunity to play any defensive snaps at linebacker, he was one of their most active special teams players, playing the fourth-most snaps (224) in the third phase behind only DeAndre Houston-Carson (285), Joe Thomas (264) and Josh Blackwell (244). He also recorded four special-teams tackles.

Unfortunately, Weatherford was also a little undisciplined. While he did not miss a single tackle — unlike Blackwell, who missed six — he committed at least two more penalties than any other special-teams player on the roster aside from Gill, who was flagged for two penalties. Granted, Weatherford gets some slack as an undrafted rookie, but it is an issue the 24-year-old linebacker will have to get corrected in his next stop.

Special teams value aside, the writing has been on the wall for Weatherford since the middle of the 2023 offseason. The Bears significantly upgraded their linebacker corps over the past several months, signing Tremaine Edmunds, T.J. Edwards and Dylan Cole and cashing in one of their fifth-round picks on Oregon standout Noah Sewell. With those four additions alongside returning rookie starter Jack Sanborn, there simply isn’t much room for lesser linebacker talent, regardless of their special teams utility.
