How life goes full circle. I was born in Downey and my Dad was always a Rams fan. I followed the Rams and actually dated a Rams Cheerleader when I managed a bank in Fullerton, (their last year in Anaheim). Then I moved to Oceanside (bought a place) and became a full time San Diego Chargers fan. I've had season tickets for 9 years. I am treating this move as a sign. It happened the day before the anniversary of the day my dad passed and brought back a flood of good Rams memories. I remember my dad and mom taking me camping the weekend of the pre-season game that Dickerson played against the Chargers, unfortunately he got knocked out of the game by a Chargers safety. I was bummed by that. But Dickerson made up for that and then some... Cough H.O.F. career.Long story aside. I hope I'm welcomed back to the Ram family. I can't support the Spanos family and the way they are doing things. I thought this day might come so I put a $100 deposit for tickets to Inglewood last year when they went on sale. As a former Los Angeles County resident and Orange County resident, I'm embarrassed by they way they are doing business. I really like the Rams new coach McVay and I know it's going to take a couple years to recover from Fishers bad drafts. I loved Wade Philips in SD so I think the Rams made a nice hire there. When players leave teams we still follow the team. But what do you do when the team abandon's its fan base? I found out about the move by a cheesy Dear John letter from Spanos. He didn't even have a press conference. He hasn't welcomed San Diego fans to follow his Los Angeles Chargers. FIGHTFORLA is the motto. But they are based in Costa Mesa and playing in Carson (rumor is they want to charge double for tickets so they can make the same amount they did at QUALCOMM, supposedly they think the more intimate venue should command a premium). All I've received from the Chargers since that time is an email with next seasons opponents.. It's amazing. Now that, I'm done venting. What's a good forum to find some people to tailgate with? I had a big space at QUALCOMM but ill probably take the Train to LA. I don't mind kicking in some dollars for good food and nice people. Sure, keep L.A. as the homebase, but leave the City of Los Angeles to the Rams. They would stand a better chance of 1) creating a new fan base with a new brand while 2) not trying to infiltrate the L.A. market/brand and 3) having an outside chance of keeping a few previous Charger fans by spinning it with a "we changed stadiums but we're still here for our Southern California fans" take on it. They suggested the Chargers should really set themselves apart brand-wise and go for something regional like the California or Southern California Chargers. Although, the latter is quite a stretch.I posted that on the Chargers message board when I saw the branding. From the Owners to the Players they are saying Bye San Diego. From the Owners to the Players they are saying Bye San Diego. The dumbest statements I've ever seen. IF Dean would have gone on TV and had a press conference explaining the move, perhaps inviting the Mayor of San Diego and the Mayor of Inglewood. And saying we appreciate our fans and hope to become a regional team for All of Southern California. Or better yet a team respected nation wide. They would have lost some fans but not destroyed their fan base. They went out of town, torching bridges and nuking cities. How's this for a good bye? from the Chargers Season Ticket Dear John (EMAIL) "I realize the news today may cause some to rethink their desire to be a Chargers fan, However, it is my sincere hope, that as we begin this exciting new era, you will keep the Chargers in your heart. and if you ultimately decide to remain involved with us. I promise we will make it as easy as possible for you...Doesn't that give you a warm fuzzy to buy tickets and follow the team to L.A.? wouldn't that make you feel appreciated? How's this? the Rams ticket office has been great and contacted me numerous times throughout the season. My Chargers ticket rep quit after the 2015 season. I haven't had a rep assigned to my account for almost the entire 2016 year. I was assigned one in October, haven't seen an email from her since the move. I've had season tickets for 9 years and had season tickets for 3 years prior to that but broke my streak because I lost my job.Great post and insight, thanks! Spanos really screwed up here and I'm seriously having second thoughts on being welcoming as opposed to slagging them - which is more and more what it looks like they deserve.
