molker,, Munson played from '64 to '79. He wore 19 all 4 seasons with the Rams, all 8 seasons with the Lions, for the one season in San Diego and one in Seattle. He then finished his career in Buffalo where he wore #9 for 2 seasons. Perhaps that is what you were remembering.

The cover of your book has me confused. You might be correct that they doctored the cover photo. The Rams didn't have a QB who wore 16 from 1950 until 1968 when Milt Plum played a season for the Rams. The uni's /helmets when Plum played were the B&W's with narrower horns. HB option play or a rookie that didn't make the team could also be a possibility.

The current #18 is Britt isn't it? He changed back to it from 81. Prior to that we had the amazingly underachieving Austin Pettis. Aside from those two I can think of no #18's during the 80's or 90's.

Not a good sign from Britt IMO. Still waiting for the other shoe to drop with this guy and switching from a WR # to a diva # isn't a good start to his new contract.

1940 / '45 - '49 HB / PR / KR Clarence Fred Gehrke

The first recorded Ram to wear #18. Fred Gherke (art major in college) is also the man credited with drawing the first horn on the Rams helmet (using grease pencil) prompting the team to adopt the logo permanently. The Rams were the first team to put a logo on it's helmets.

For those who couldn't remember another Ram sporting the # 18, it's because there wasn't another Los Angeles Ram player to wear #18 until Roman Gabriel in 1962 to '72.

The only other LA Ram to ever wear #18 was, '91 KR James Arthur Raye III for 1 season
no team photo available.
