Mets aren't happy about the slide by Utley. I've seen worse attempts at taking a guy out. If the SS doesn't get hurt its not even an issue. They're upset they lost their guy. Screw them. Its baseball. Utley's trying to break up the double play because that run is crucial to their chances. I still think the Cardinals intentially took out Hanley Ramirez by drilling him in the ribs a couple years ago. No one complained about that.

Dodgers need to channel their inner Don Drysdale if the Mets try to retaliate. "For every one of my guys you hit, I hit two of yours. Let me know when you've had enough".

Dodgers suck and they are likely done already. They can't hit average or better pitching. Their starters feel the pressure of having to pitch perfectly or lose and even if they were "in it", the bullpen would blow it.

I'm not in the Mattingly lynch party but I had to wonder why there were so many lefties in the lineup tonight. I haven't been able to see any of this shit all year but I have to imagine there's some sort of scouting on deMet pitcher. Did he magically start dominating left-handed batting tonight or has he sucked against them and the Dodgers out-sucked him and struck out...what, every at-bat?

Sorry but I disagree and blame Mattingly 100% for game 1. As was said Wright is a fastball hitter so you bring in a 1 trick pony that just throws hard and usually without movement. Couple that with the fact Baez has the highest % of inherited runners scoring and it was a horrible choice by Donny, the worst choice he could have made in the game.

Agree with your post Old School...Baez was a horrible decision...

Hahaha, I loved Drysdale, he also said, "why throw 4 balls for a free pass, hit'em with 1"...

Was it Vin who told the story about a hitter who, out of habit, came up to the plate and started digging out a hole for his back foot, looked up and realized it was Drysdale on the mound, called time and quickly filled the hole back in?

From Saturday night's telecast, Hall of Famer and former third baseman and shortstop Cal Ripken:

"Take a look at Utley right here. He's coming in. He'll take a shot. It's a hard nosed play. It just looked more different because he (Tejada) was trying to turn around and make an acrobatic throw. If you (Tejada) are coming in straight forward you (Tejada) see him (Utley) in front of you. You (Utley) are coming into make contact here to break up the double play. You are expecting him (Tejada) to come towards you face front. Once he (Tejada) turns around to try to make the acrobatic throw the other way then it puts him (Tejada) in a situation so that it looks like a real violent collision. It would be a hard collision anyway but that's coming in my opinion (Cal Ripken's) just to break up the double play, that is normal."

Didn't seem like Utley was making much, if any, effort to get to the bag but Tejada with his back turned is just nuts...

The Dodgers are in elimination game status now. Its gonna be tough. Kershaw seems like he starts to tire after 6 innings in the playoffs. Anyone who's seen our bullpen knows its scary for the 7th and 8th inning guys. On top of that, they can't hit DeGrom. He owns them.

Looks like they're going with Kershaw on short rest. Mets are giving DeGrom an extra game off so he'll be fully rested if they need a game 5. They have one to give.

Its a tall order for the Dodgers. Kershaw has not done all that well on short rest. Mets rookie pitcher Matz dominated the Dodgers this year.

Dodgers have no excuses. They'll have both their aces going. If they get eliminated I won't be as disappointed this year as the last two. I never thought they were as good as last year. When you get past Kershaw and Greinke there's a huge dropoff. I never expected Anderson to get past 5 innings. He make it to the 4th inning. And the relievers were just as bad. Too bad we had to lost Ryu for the season before it even began.

Can we fire Donny now? His lineup and bullpen decisions are the reason we're down 2-1. He's atrocious and can't stop wearing a Dodger uniform fast enough.

I don't doubt that happened, you DID NOT dig in against Drysdale! Drysdale & Gibson (Cards) pitched in the same era, you didn't dig in against either of those guys...

Drysdale story: I was there in 1959, Coliseum, Reds vs Dodgers, Drysdale pitching to Frank Robinson: Robinson always crowded the plate which he did in this game, Drysdale drilled Robinson with a sidearm fastball with the 1st pitch, as Robinson is going to 1st he started yelling at Drysdale, Drysdale never said a word, threw his glove down & went after Robinson, Norm Larker (Dodgers 1st baseman) tackled Drysdale & both benches emptied, gradually tempers cooled & the game proceeded...Drysdale threw nothing but sidearm stuff to Robinson the rest of the game, Robinson never got a hit & Dodgers won...Vin: "Drysdale throws sidearm by way of 3rd base." Yes he did...
