I put myself on record a few weeks ago saying McVay was doing a very bad job (or was it a "very, very bad job"?) this year. The last two weeks have given me more optimism. I wish I knew better what their plan was, but if I did know, they wouldn't really be doing their jobs.

I kind of wish we could stop treating September as extended preseason, but in hindsight when you have so many young players you may not really have a choice.

Anywho I was really beginning to question where McVay's head was at, so he's been proving me wrong since then ..

Which is kind of frightening if one recalls the Giants game last year - I've not been a Rams fan for as long as some of you here (only a scant few decades), but that was the ugliest regular season win I've ever seen from the Rams ..

I'd prefer a less mobile Rodgers though I don't know if that's cutting off my nose to spite my face. I really want to see the young DL get after him.

Want a fan reaction? Try skipping ahead to the third quarter just before the 7 min mark when Deebo drops the pass. All through the game he goes off everytime Deebo is targeted. He goes off the rail when Williams makes the pick. Oh yeah it's priceless!

IMO? You're just not accounting for 2 things.

1. The defense is young. As a result it's inconsistent.
2. The OL has been injured. That was particularly bad in the first few weeks.

My entire time posting on the net about Rams football, going back more than a couple of decades, I have often encountered this issue: many analysts and fans simply do not account for the damage a seriously injured OL does to an offense.

No team plays well if it's OL is banged up beyond a certain level. You can play with relatively healthy OLs, where maybe you have this or that injury, but not with a damaged OL where the injuries go beyond that.

No qb thrives under those conditions. And the playcalling has to be altered to account for the issues with timing, cohesion, and communication when your OL is playing with multiple injury replacements.

Want an example? The Miami game. Rams played that game with 3 replacements. 2 were guys returning from injury, but they hadn't practiced in a while and weren't really fully integrated into the unit as live action starters. The 3rd was replacing an injured Hav. They could not get the offense going that day. It was too much. They couldn't run the ball and the offense sputtered. That's not even an example of an injured OL, it's an example of trying to re-integrate starters too quickly after recovering from injuries.

McVay is the best Head Coach in the NFL and it isnt really close.

His combination of X's and O's brilliance along with his people (management) skills, make him the best in the NFL. We are soooo fortunate to have him.

Here's an example of this. Avila came back and struggled at first, but now he's clicking. The result?

Blaine Grisak @bgrisakTST
Steve Avila has had a huge impact in the Rams run game.

With Avila, Rams are averaging 4.6 yards per carry, a 50.4% success rate, and a 12.2% explosive rush rate.

Without Avila, they have only gained 3.8 ypc, a 43.8% SR, and a 6.8% explosive rush rate.
