And getting experience in the NFL at guard isn't some kind of novel concept I'm inventing.

Ogden in 96, the year he was drafted, played guard all season.

Miller, the Rams ROT in 99, played guard in 98.

Just 2 examples.

So yeah it's not unheard of by any means for an OT to start out playing guard. For that matter, Jackie Slater's first starts were at guard, and it was injuries to other players that moved him to tackle.

Ideally the rams will go into the draft with a starter in place at each position, not having a need to draft a starter at a particular spot. Upgrading the talent is what the draft is about. OL depth talent is lacking.
Rams have 2 starters coming back at Tackle in Whitworth & Havenstein. Adding a swing Tackle makes a lot of sense. Drafting a player to fill that role in 2018, with the idea he could become a starter at either spot in 2018 . Players drafted in the first 3 rounds can be expected to contribute, round 4 and after not so much. Williams seems to have the look as a stopgap guy, with too much playing time be overexposed. Rams need and can do better.

Ogden played left guard. Next to left tackle where he had an all pro career. Not right guard.
Fred Miller was a 5th round pick who was a fringe player until his 4th season.
Jackie Slater barely played until his 4th season.
Do you just make shit up as you go? Good grief.

Unless injury, a swing tackle gets little to no playing time.
I’d expect more from the first 2 rounds of the draft.
And fwiw, the rams have none of the starting/nickel corners under contract for 2018

OL does not rotate players into games as other positions do, but the drafted T would get much practice time with Whitworth getting practice time off during the season.
CB will be looked at in the draft too, think Hill & Peterson are better, much better backups at CB compared to Williams at T.

lol elvis... ya draft cant get here soon enough

dang... 16 pages later my take still rules...

get the killer middle LB...

and i hate to say this, but due to the fact that the rams extended AO, we handicapped ourselves by now not being able to keep barron, who i think might be a better value than tree...
our run defense needs a linebacker that explodes to the hole and tackles..

lights out... not the weak shit that AO brings to the table...

but alas... others, by money committed, see different..

go rams

walterfootball mock - not sure i would be bummed with this....

1. Los Angeles Rams: Sam Hubbard, DE, Ohio State: The Rams have a ferocious defensive line, but Connor Barwin is the one weak link. He was supposed to provide some veteran stability, but that hasn't happened. Here's a potential upgrade.

3. Los Angeles Rams: Braden Smith, G, Auburn: The Rams have a great offensive line, but their one weakness is at right guard, which is a position they can address at this juncture.

4. Los Angeles Rams: Tony Brown, CB, Alabama: I wouldn't be surprised if the Rams doubled up on cornerbacks, just in case they lose Trumaine Johnson this offseason.
