I don't believe restructuring AD is a good move. It just creates more of a cap hit when he retires. Let him keep his money because he's worth every penny. Same with Kupp. He's been hurt a lot and pushing his money off creates a similar problem down the road. He's also worth every penny now. Restructure Stafford because he could be our QB for 4 more years. Noteboom has got to be restructured to keep around.

/zn/ wrote:Those are all interesting points. And I like what you came up with. I have one small disagreement though. I don't see how they could get anything close to 80 M in cap space. At most I see them getting something like 20 M more if they do all the re-structures you're talking about. The drawback being, restructures subtract future cap space, which makes it actually harder to sign FAs in the year you're already in.

I'm figuring the RAMs will definitely restructure Stafford's contract,

that would give us 20 mil more on the cap.

The reason why I think they will do their restructures, (Stafford, Kupp)

contract extensions, (AD) and renegotiate contract, (NB)

Because they know they have a short window,

2 to 3 years left with Stafford, AD, Kupp, RHav, Higbee.

A two-year window getting into another SB.

This would be a low-key, good get...

Cap space reports from Spotrac already factor in signing of the draft class....

We don't need to restructure much... if any.

As of right now,

we have 30mil in cap space.

17mil should go to the drafted & PS

I foresee the RAMs restructuring Stafford, AD, Kupp & Noteboom contracts,

In which case it should put us in the roundabout of about 80mil of cap space.

The RAMs are not going to trade any of their picks for a Vet from another team.

I can see them picking up a quality FA instead.

Most likely an edge rusher like:

Danielle Hunter

and resigning some of our FA:

I see these are the mains player we should sign back.

QB/Wentz: 3mil
CB/Witherspoon: 5mil
LT/A.Jackson: 3mil (RFA)
S/Fuller or Johnson: 3mil

So thats around 31 mil between drafted, PS and these players listed above.

So that gives us 49 mil to at least pick up that edge rusher/Hunter for 20mil.

Giving us at least 25mil +/- left to play with.

Drafting some very good quality players from the draft.

Should put us in the SB contention!!!!

I wouldn’t restructure AD, I would extend him 2 years with the last year voidable. Yes, it will cost more but, you spread the hit over 3 years reducing the cap hit slightly in each of them. Keeps him Kupp and Staff on the same contract years trajectory.

He might be my favorite FA target. I'd backup the Brinks truck for Hunter, but who knows if we'd be his top choice and it may take 2 trucks. Then I'm no thanks. He will probably get a deal during the tampering period.

Why not go after Greenward - 12.5 sacks last year, 2 years younger, and maybe $6M+/year cheaper?

On my early posting, I stated, restructure,
meaning to take care of those contracts,
whether it comes through a restructure,
or an extension, or a renegotiation contract.

Copy that 69. There are a good number of players available at edge, IOL, safety, and a decent number of corners. The Rams hopefully can get some good guys on good deals. Might not be “known” names but up and coming players.

Greg the Leg is off the market. The Rams need a veteran kicker and veteran back up QB. I think they learned their lesson last season with both those positions.
