McVay is here to stay and I'm glad. But that doesn't mean EVERY decision he makes or has made is pure gold. For example and on topic, the decision to forego the preseason and not start ANY starters during that time. I'm sure some will try and twist that into Kromer's fault too but in retrospect, it was not as beneficial as planned.

Neither was "managing" Gurley. There has been much criticism of the rushing game but how good can the rushing game be if the head coach is simply not calling running plays?

Most of all, we fans have ZERO way of knowing what involvement or recommendations Kromer made regarding the o-line personnel this season. To assume that he assured McVay he could coach up a couple of bums is beyond speculation. But, by the end of the year the o-line was functional. Perhaps not great praise but commendable enough consider the decisions to not give the opening day unit an opportunity to start in sync, to highly restrict Gurley's opportunities and to then have to go with an even more shuffled line midstream. And that's aside from the defense giving up fifty fucking five to the Buccaneers, 200+ rushing to the Ravens and Cowboys and being wildly inconsistent all year.

That argument falls kinda flat when you can say the same stuff about how Ram defensive personnel decisions were made by others with a higher pay grade than Wade Phillips.....also mindful of tight NFL Salary Cap business considerations :idea2: ....

Wait, we moved on from Wade to hold him accountable for personnel decisions?

Hi Elvis,
I said Wade was in the same Ram Politburo boat as Kromer....
ie. Demoff, McSnead & Co. make the personnel decisions.....
yet Wade gets canned
and Kromer survives when both of their respective 2019 units tube. :|

Back to Dr. Vinny Goombotz:
Rodney: Doc, this in an emergency! I accidentally swallowed a whole bottle of sleeping pills!! What do I do???!!
Dr. Goombotz: Don't worry....just have a couple of cocktails and take a nap! :lol2:

Great post.
McVay is far from a finished product, and there isn't a coach alive I'd rather have.
As for Kromer, he's pretty much the only coach left on staff who's been here since day 1. So maybe McVay sees him as a guy he cant live without, maybe he's just turned over so many coaches he wants something consistent or likely a combination of the 2.

I think there is a big missing piece here though, Wade's contract was up, so it was sign the guy to 3 more years, face the scrutiny of a 1 year lame duck deal or part ways and start fresh. I don't know for certain that Kromer contract wasn't up as well, but I think with his "promotion" last year, it wouldn't have also come in the last year of a deal.

Which ought to tell you how wrongheaded your take is.

This isn't about holding position coaches and coordinators accountable for personnel decisions.

You're the only one focused on that and it doesn't make any sense.

I'm much more swayed by your take that Kromer failed as run game coordinator than he hoodwinked the Rams into making bad personnel decisions.

It;s far from zero. First off no one in their right mind just imposes players on a good OL coach. They have a type of player, physically and mentally, they like and want. They are better at spotting that then personnel people who have to know every position on a team, offense and defense and special teams. Second off the Rams talk about this--we know full well Kromer is heavily involved because over the years they have mentioned it. In fact that kind of story goes back to Hanifan--the Rams talked about him working invidual players out.

Odds are, they would not be letting Saffold go without AK being in on the discussion.

Hey Les, you seen Rodger?
Oh hi Aaaron. We let Rodger walk.
WHAT?

The argument I disagree with is the one that says that because the OL struggled early in 2019, you dump the OL coach. Look around the league. No one just dumps an established OL coach that way--on a whim, after half a season of an OL struggling. Plus I agree with and echo the point that McV is not stupid--if the OL coaching were the problem, then in the middle of a full-fledged coaching purge, the OL coach would not have been spared. Again, unless you assume that McV has no bloody idea what he is doing. Which if true would actually be the Rams single biggest problem.
