I wonder how the deal with the Raiders would be affected. They were in play with this also.

I think it wouldn't affect it at all because even if the Chargers were to stay in Carson  they would still be in the LA market. My assumption would be that Kroneke wouldn't be too happy about that though. Chargers play a significant role in the construction costs of the new stadium.

I thought the deal had to do exclusively with moving to the new stadium?

That was why they had individual timelines.

I am pretty certain this is all moot anyways.

But this isn't........

Non-issue. Kroenke was planning to go it alone the whole time. He does not need the Chargers money. Allowing them to rent was a forced concession by the NFL before they would approve the Rams moving back home.

I hope they stay in Carson, or better yet get their butts down south where they belong.

It's a looooong shot, but maybe staying in StubHub reopens the door just a teeny bit on the chance for them to move back to San Diego.

If they are actually thinking about this, I'd have to agree that there could be a small crack of an opportunity for SD ,,,, but I doubt it. I think they are here at least until Oakland get's settled in Vegas. Most likely for good as SD fans would need a pretty good explanation to accept Spanos back with open arms.

Maybe the sparse crowd at the Coliseum is something Spanos fears in the Inglewood stadium for the football version of the Clippers.

Although that same crowd at the new stadium would be close to 75% capacity, even an expanded Stub Hub you might only need 40,000 to look full

I know it's a 1 in a 1000 chance, but a Charger return to San Diego would have to be with a different owner. Spanos has poisoned the well.

Of course Stan can do it by himself but it is better business to have Spanos as a tenant. He will get a percentage of the PSL money to help cover costs of construction. In addition he has a stadium generating revenue every week during the NFL season.

Honestly having the Chargers as tenants will only be a factor to us Rams fans when they play each other and the Rams wind up being a visitor in their own stadium. Other than that happening, what other negative is there really. Its not like on the days we are there i.e Rams games the stadium will be anything but Rams-centric.

Spanos already on hook for 650 million. He would have to put up his own money to do any major upgrade.

Not. Happening.

Would completely defeat purpose of leaving SD.

How much money was the city of Carson going to give the Chargers and Raiders to play in the stadium built upon the toxic landfill? Why can't they resurrect that financing?

The purpose of leaving San Diego was getting out of one of the oldest stadiums in the NFL. Plus the bonus of playing in a market four times larger.
