Guy played one lights out pre-season game for us and got injured.

I would love to see him during the season with a decent team. There might be something there. Like Amendola.

TomSlick wrote:Yeah, Fisher and company, at times, had a hard time identifying quality NFL talent. Then when they got that part right, utilizing that talent became a problem. Whew, those were dark days, indeed.

Spruce had that fun game against Dallas, even though it was against scrubs,he showed enough to get everyone excited.
Problem though was that 1 game seemingly earned him a spot on the final 53. That to me was just another example of how clueless Fisher was.
He was injured, there were many other ways to protect him than a 53 roster spot
Last I heard he was on the Bears practice squad, where he belongs. He could work on his skills and still have a shot some day

Spruce was only on the Bears practice squad a few weeks before he was waived. The Lions just brought him in for a workout (that's why the thread was bumped).

Spruce is Kupp light. He looked decent by comparison to the hot garbage we rolled out in 2016 but I doubt he would have made final cuts this season. .

I think the issue people had with Spruce is that he got hurt after that good preseason game in 2016. We see a player that flashes some potential, and we want to see more. Then all of a sudden he's gone, and not because he didn't perform, but because he couldn't perform. Sorta like what happened with Mark Clayton back a few years. Leaves people wanting more, but sometimes there isn't any more.

Spruce is back in the NFL (at least for a 3-4 months)!

Yeah, Jeff "Cant catch a break" Fisher gave this guy a spot on the 53 after 1 pre season game, and then gave Austin a ridiculous contract extension during the same off season.
Will wonders ever cease why this team was at the bottom of the scoring barrel for so long...

Poor Nelson. He's so desperate that he's working out for the Chargers.
