I just think it's too broad of a statement.

"mostly meaningless"? Maybe? I would say the results/stats are mostly meaningless, but there are a lot of things you can observe/learn in preseason that will carry over to the regular season, imo.

Especially when it comes to very young players and those coming off injury.

again, meaningless in terms of what to expect from the regular season, the previous year's performance is typically a better barometer... that said, it's not meaningless in terms of taking a look at the guys on the bubble, deciding on the final roster, getting some reps in for the starters, attempting to get some timing down, but preseason performance just isn't an indicator of things to come, how can it be?

It will be great to watch the hard knocks footage following each preseason game this year. Although we as fans find preseason games to be meaningless, the coaches set up game plans to highlight particular aspects of the game that we are not privy to and maybe Hard knocks will show why we did what we did. It will also be interesting to see if/how preseason game performace shapes the bottom half of this roster. Hopefully Hard Knocks highlights that as well.

Actually year after year we see things in preseason games that do hold up as predictors for ASPECTS of the season. That's old and established.

It's just that who wins or loses doesn't matter.

But you can see some things in pre-season games that hold up. Happens every year.

From a fan perspective, it is meaningless cause we just wanna see games. But it's more for the coaches (to work in play calls, rotations, etc especially if there are new coaches) and the outside-the-bubble players trying to make the 53-man roster.

Hard Knocks does a good job of showcasing that. It always gets me rooting for guys trying to make the team or the practice squad, but we'll see guys we like and don't make the cut and join the rest of us workaholics.

I'm going to be focusing on all of these camp cut battles. That's where the action is going to be at. Keep an eye out for some new guys like:

#36 HB Aaron Green
#13 WR Mike Thomas
#81 WR Duke Williams
#86 WR Nelson Spruce
#89 TE Tyler Higbee
#93 DL Ethan Westbrooks
#53 LB Brandon Chubb
#50 LB Cameron Lynch
#35 CB Michael Jordan

Those young guys are all standing out at camp. There's two other DE's that could make some noise too. #70 Morgan Fox and #72 Matt Longacre.

There's some new guy at QB too. Named Jared Goff, really never heard of him before. You might want to watch out for him too. ;)

Its meaningless in terms of wins and losses. But it's invaluable this year. Gives Goff some important reps in real game action.
