I hold the opinion today that I have for years, McVay felt burnt by Gurley (rightly or wrongly) in the Superbowl against the Pats, and that all but cemented how RB's would be viewed and valued by the Rams for the rest of his tenure. I'd love a big monster of an RB. They can single handedly change a game. But I don't think we see anything like that while McVay is calling plays.

Probably right. A shame they aren’t at least considering a home run hitter at the position. Then again, maybe K Will or Corum can take a long one to the house if they get the right look and it’s blocked correctly.

Kyren was one a broken tackle away from taking it the distance this past Sunday and he was VERY close from breaking that tackle.

I would not hate drafting a guy with breakaway speed, speed kills right. You might be able to find one in the middle of the draft. I like Jaydn Ott from Cal. He has had a off year due to injuries this season but has the quicks that we covet. His stock is down which is perfect for the Rams.

I think we all see the same things. It's a RB with a particular skillset that McVay wants. He simply prioritizes what he needs to fit his offense. The RB isn't for a kill shot, that is what his WRs are for. The run game is a chain mover and enough of a threat to the defense that they must honor the run possibility. Particularly in the red zone.

That skill set McVay is looking for is found in every draft and doesn't require a first day draft pick. Normally rounds 3-5 is where old school GM's drafted their RBs which is where the Rams drafted Williams (5th round) and Corum (3rd round). Snead is very old school in where he generally picks position players. OL stands out as he takes his OL mostly in rounds 3-6 but he took Avila because he was an exceptional talent.

Corum basically checks the boxes that McVay prioritizes in his starting RBs. I can see him as a 3 year starting RB with them drafting his replacement in 2026.

It wouldn't surprise me if Schrader is being groomed to be a temporary RB#2 as he fits the profile. He's more of a Ronnie Rivers replacement i.e. RB3. At this point he seems to lack the agility of both Williams and Corum and appears to have average field vision. He looks to be a tough runner, but I don't see him as a long term RB2 who IMO would be groomed to be the next RB1. That guy IMO will be taken in the 2026 draft.

If the Rams want future RB production, they need to use rounds 3 and up. The odds of getting a productive franchise back like Wms after round 3 are very bad. In fact here's a tidbit. Of all the backs the Rams have ever drafted after round 3, and I mean all the backs drafted after round 3 since 1937 and their first ever draft, only 1 of them has ever had a franchise back season (like 2023 with Williams).

And of course the only back the Rams ever drafted after round 3 who became a franchise back is, yep, Kyren Williams.

I once did the numbers on this, and went through 10 years of draft history, starting 3 years before the year in which I was doing that work (3 years allows for a lot more clarity). So I looked at 10 years of drafts, and did the odds on getting a thousand yard starter or a strong rotation back after round 3. I wish I knew where that post was, but, I do remember that the rate at which you get a strong "hit" on a back after round 3 was a mid single figure percentage. Somewhere around 5% or less (wish I remembered the exact number, but trust me it was ridiculously low).

If you name all the good or great starting RBs in Rams history, again, KW is the only one taken after round 3.

Saying it's easy to find a starting caliber back after round 3 is like saying yes you can find a franchise qb after round 2, look at Tom Brady (round 6) or Kurt Warner (udfa). Well yes there are few of them in NFL history, but it's the hit percentage. After round 2 with qbs the hit percentage is disastrous, it's not something you can count on. Same with backs after round 3.

It comes from over the cap. 77k of dead money if we moved on from him which we clearly wont.

We have Kyren through 2025, like to see them do a new contract in the offseason for a 2-3 years, he doesnt really have much mileage on him. Corum is nice but not on Kyren level yet.

I know RBs are experiencing a resurgence but they get hurt way too often, too short of a shelf life, don't think it makes sense to try and build a team around one, much rather be based on QB and passing game...
