With the release of Nsekhe that probably makes Christian the swing OT. He's a bit of an enigma IMO because with his talent he should have played better over the years. But new team, and new system might benefit him. The Rams obviously see something in him. Wendell had time to really look at Christian before the Rams decided to release Nsekhe.

IMO the issue is who is going to play LG. With Jonah Jackson on IR will that mean Bruss or McMahon at LG? McMahon played both RG and LG in college. His best position is probably center though. Bruss is strictly a OG with the Rams. With Dotson hurting and ineffective in the run game on Sunday do they dare to play both Bruss and McMahon against the Niners? I would doubt that as it would mean the IOL is totally backups.

The Rams will need to make a lot of decisions this week. With Jonah going on IR and Dotson dinged up who plays where will be crucial.

LG: They could shift Limmer to LG and play McAllister at center. They could then play Bruss and allow Dotson to heal up. The wildcard is how much they like or not McMahon. He's played both OG positions in college but his best position was Center. No matter what the Rams decide the IOL once a strength will be a glaring weakness up front against a top DL.

If the Rams play Dotson I think their run attack will be largely to the left. Dotson struggled in run blocking the last two games. I'm not sure he's able to get to the second level on that dinged up ankle. The problem is that neither Alaric or Limmer are dominant in run blocking. The other question is whether they will keep Limmer at center to keep continuity with the snap and play McMahon at LG. McMahon IMO is a better run blocking OG than Bruss.

The Rams have options but none of them are optimal. They could also use a TE in motion to provide a wham block on interior runs or lead block on runs outside. I think Sean might dust off his old 2018 perimeter run attack since his IOL is going to be dinged up or young inexperienced guys. Needless to say the Niners will likely focus pressure on passing downs on the IOL with stunts and blitzes. Quick passes to TEs, or RBs in the flats might be a key component of the passing attack.

Stafford's WRs aren't bad with Robinson, Atwell and Whittington/Johnson but how much time he will have is going to be the difference. The Rams deservedly so will be huge underdogs this week. OL injuries were the only way this season was going to get derailed and now it's a reality.

Obviously, Jonah's time in LA looks like it will be short lived. All the more reason to have a hard look at McMahon as a future starter. Does Bruss have a future as a starter next year? That could get a hard look this year. They need to get Dotson healed, the sooner the better. Since Avila won't be back probably until late November or early December do the Rams bite the bullet and allow Dotson to rest and heal now? Is a dinged up Dotson that much better than a healthy Bruss?

On the Sean McVay Show McVay said Bruss would play LG.

if Dotson can play, Dotson will play. McVay won't bench Dotson for a rookie that wasn't even in our training camp over 1 bad game. That would be a major overreaction, and that's not like McVay.

McMahon IMO is a better run blocking OG than Bruss.

Based on what? My son is an Eagles fan, and he said McMahon has potential but he is nowhere near ready to play - needs more time to develop and gain strength.

Obviously, Jonah's time in LA looks like it will be short lived.

Why is that obvious? Please explain.

Wow.

First, I heard Avila should be back in November, not the end of November or early December. Where did you hear that?

Second, the choice right now is not between Dotson and Bruss. They will both play. You seem to have elevated Dylan McMahon to starter somehow. Has McVay said that anywhere?

At times those takes sound like they come from an A.I. bot - just throwing semi-connected data against a wall. No offense. It just feels that way, at times. Other times, some solid takes.

Agree with everything AZ posted, BTW.

Question do you really think a guy coming off of several weeks of IR will be ready to play immediately? I assume they will give him a week perhaps two depending upon how the OL is doing.

So If Avila comes off of IR in November it would depend upon when he comes off that determines the time line. Just common sense...something some guys lack.

Bruss is definitely a feel good story. I hope he plays well. But doing so in practice and preseason isn't the same as playing against the Niner D which will target the interior OL. As far as Dotson is concerned he's playing hurt that much is obvious. He also didn't get any push in the run game in Detroit something he dominated last year. Just simple observation, again something some people aren't good at. Playing a player with a dinged up ankle is never good. You risk losing him for the season. It's an act of desperation that DC's love. Who's behind him? Probably McMahon.

Without a run game and with both Nacua and Kupp out this offense will be running on half-octane. The other thing being ignored is that Dotson was playing in Detroit wearing the guardian cap. Something he didn't do before. My feeling is that if his ankle is such that he feels he might end up on the ground, then yeah wearing the added protection makes sense. But it begs the question, why is he out there? The team is silent because to point it out simply puts a target on him.
